For me, it was illumnae who did me in. I was keeping discus and so was he,
but I guess we both wanted to see something different. He started off first and started bombing me with Apisto literature and here I am.
Just wondering who 'poison' you into apisto? Or where did you first saw apisto and started keeping them. Please share!
I'll start off with mine.
When i started planted tank years back, i didn't know anything, so the first person who came to my help was Simon. From there he told me about dwarf cichlids. The rest is history!
Started with one pair, than 2, than 3 and the collection starts building. Couldn't get my hands on better apisto last time, no shops are willing to bring in.
Along the way i met many forumers and even met up with them.
Glad to know you guys!

For me i just browse through the forum and biotope post in a thread call 'New Cichlids Shipment - 20 Oct 2007' so i just cursious and went in to take a look. At first i don't know what fish are they and i start to search the name in and web and see. They're shellies and they are so cute and making me wanted to setup a tank for them. So i started to do some read up of them in the Cichlids forum. From there i read up all the thread that you guys post and also went to read up the sticky that was posted by dbcyeo. And i came to know apisto was a very intersting and beautiful fish then shellies. So i started to search around in the web for some apistogramma spices and look at some apisto and you guys posted under market, merchant ad and cichlids forums. And i also went down to biotope and C328 to ask the uncle there regarding about apisto needs and requirement. And from there i started to decide to keep these beautiful and interesting spices. But it still a long way for me and still alot for me to learn from you guys..![]()

Keeping fish as pets can be a rewarding hobby.
Designing and maintaining your aquariums is a wonderful creative outlet.
Watching your fish swim around is both relaxing and fun.
Myself! Haha.
It was purely accidental. I remember I was looking for a pair of more unique freshwater fish that is not too big in size and with cool characteristics.
I was walking around PetSafari (Simei) and saw this pair of solid-coloured A. caca super red. Since then its been no stopping..
It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!
Haha it was this forum. Like trident mentioned, i was keeping discus. started to browse this forum, and since discus are cichlids i naturally came to this subforum. turns out that discus weren't so popular here though, but apistos were! after awhile of reading up and seeing beautiful photos, i decided to take the plunge and converted my discus grow out tank into my first apisto tank...there has since been no turning back![]()
Myself!!had been interested ever since i saw pictures of A. agassizii in an aquarium book when i was in primary school... only started keeping them after restarting the hobby a short time ago though.
I read about Apisto many years ago through magazine but was not able to get hold of them as they are not common in Singapore 10 years back.1st saw the fish at LFS in the east area selling at $xxx price caught my attantion but wasnt able to afford it.
Came into this forums for my planter tank and saw the sales thread from Eman and bought the 1st pair of caca .
Since then my planter tank has become apisto tank.![]()

I got mine when I was browsing through some gallery pictures from an Aussie betta community forum (I was into bettas last time) and saw a picture of a Caca that caught my eye. From then on, I found out more on this species called South American Cichlids and I got a pair of Agas. Since then, I moved to Singapore and I found AQ and this person called Genes who helped me out a lot. Got hooked on every since and through his recommendation, I got myself a pair of Bit "paracuuba"s.![]()
Beauty is in the eyes of the beerholder.
For me, it was a small shop in Eunos called Aquanature, which the young shop owner introduced planted tank to me....progressing further, he brought in some Ap. ccaatuoides and Agassizii....its was like love at first sight, so it continued from then on....
Never regretted keeping apistos! Met lots of nice people from this forum too! Cheers!

A couple of months back I got bored of staring at the usual Tetras, etc in my planted tank. I wanted something small, yet with lots of character. Searched various LFS but found nothing except balloon rams. Luckily, I found SLS which brings in some nice Apistos.
Then I found AQ and got 'poisoned' even more. Since then, there's been no turning back![]()

For me, I didn't like dwarf cichlids in the begining. Then this person in AQ came to my house dump a lot of fishes into my 5 ft planted tank about four years ago. They were Apistogramma spp!! I had about 10 pieces of 3 or 4 species in my tank and from then on I more or less had them in some of my tanks at any one point in time.
Cheers,

I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
For me, few years ago I started first in planted tank and very interested in keeping Mikrogeophagus ramirez , so I even sign up my user name in AQ as "ram". I read up a lots on apisto dwarf cichlids too, but last time the prices for apisto were higher and these fish are less common in LFS. Recently I saw C328 selling these beautiful species and started this exciting hobby. It is great fun particularly when the pair started the breeding process.
2006 chinese new year. I was revamping my 3ft tank for the new year. Went to wackytpt house to get some plants. Saw his wilhelm ap. viejita. These little buggars were red like fire crackers. Got tempted.
Went to C328 the next day. Saw a pair of ap. cacatuoides. Bought it, and the buying never stops since then.![]()

I was just surfing the net for general fish stuff and I came to this forum. And from here I got addicted to apistos after reading so much about them in this subforum.
Got my first pair of ap. cacatuoides courtesy of Benetay![]()
Like Yorky I too got poisoned at Pet safari years back and also by the A. caca :P. Visited the place every weekend for new specimen
I remember the time when Simon poison me, we keep going to H20. Thats the only few places in Singapore other than Pet Safari where they have apisto!
Cheers!

Mr Thio of Biotope is the one who introduced this wonderful species of cichlid to me.
