How often should i feed my newts?

Recently, something strange has been happening with my Fire-bellied newts. One of them in particular gets very thin just a day or two after they've been fed (bloodworms). They also get extremely fat after I feed them. They never used to do that, but it's quite scary seeing his ribs poking out when I know he's just been fed.
What's wrong? Should I feed them less, and more often?
The tank is 2ft long and filtered with sand, if you need that info.

I feed my newts every 3-5 days.

For the thin one, don't worry. As long as the fellow has been feeding, it will gain weight in no time.

I remember reading an article about how temperature affects the metabolism of newts, so you might want to take that into consideration.

I suppose it is quite cold here just now. I'll make sure the heating stays on longer and I keep the doors and windows shut.

Hmm.. What's the temperature like over at your place?

I don't think fire belly newts need heating at all, in fact they prefer cooler temperature.

I'm not sure about inside, maybe 18 degrees Celsius or so..?
Outside it's like 4 degrees or something. Brrrr.

18 degrees sounds fine for a newt.

They prefer something below 23 degrees celcius.

Over here I have to place my newts under air-conditioning at night just to lower the temperature.

Hi, feeding newts has always been a headache for me too..

I'm having 4 newts now. I have been feeding them meal worm, just molted and chopped into half. There is one that is always eager to eat everyday and it has grown to been the biggest of the four. One which is always in the water now, is the smallest size because it used to hide alot, has been eating almost everyday too. Feeding this two is the easy part.

The other two only eat once in a long while. Most of the time when I push the meal worm to them, they will turn their head away.. I'm not sure if they are eating other stuff when I'm not around, but I will usually throw some tubifex worm into the water area and they can help themself if they are hunger...
