Recently spotted one of my neighbourhood lfs selling pairs of Ivanacara adoketa. Pretty interesting fish i should say, was wondering if anyone have experiences with this species. Care to share?

    FYI

Ivanacara adoketa in our LFS!!!??? How much are they selling? Wild pairs are going for around 2K per pair.

Or did you saw Nanacara anomala instead. Recently there is an influx of this species.

Yea, recently Nanacara Anomala are like very commonly seen in lfs. There was this particular pair of Nanacara which i saw was different. By looking at the coloration and finage, im pretty sure its Nannacara Adoketa. I didnt ask how much, but the next day i visited the lfs...the pair was gone.

Ow...gone so fast! Which LFS was that? By the way, the genus of adoketa have been changed to Ivanacara. So they are no longer called Nanacara adoketa but Ivanacara adoketa.

I had one previously and it was very easy caring for him. Kept it for a few years before it finally passed on. Grew from a fry to about 10 cm.

Also babysat a bunch of them for a while for yorky which was specially imported from UK.

Did you happen to see such facial and body markings? Or rather which aspect of the specimen you saw made it so sure that it was different from the more common Nannacara anomala?

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

The pair was pretty young though, quite small in size. From what i know, tank-bred juvenile adoketas are selling roughly around 10-12USD per piece.

    Btw bro Zack..

Looks like you are very much "poisoned" by the apisto bugs as well just like me.. Noticed that you are also recently acquiring lots of pairs of apistos as well.. Hee.. Welcome to the apisto "poisoned" club..

Ya.. Recently there are lots of Nannacara Anomala aviable.. But IMO.. These aren't the nicest one.. Hope some LFS will bring in some top notch ones soon..

    Regards

This price is considered cheap. I spent quite a sum on my 10pcs.
My greatest interest in fish hobby is to breed them.

Haha! Yeah bro, pretty much "poisoned" by the beauty of apistos. But i have my limits though, wouldnt spill too much money on them for now. Further more im not like you guys, i have space constraints. Not much place to house them also, currently i only concentrate on my 3pairs thats all. Ofcourse, may make space for more if possible.

adoketa is easy to keep while breeding is a bit challenging. I have got 7 pairs from all sources and here is a tip on quality: Look at the fish's vertical dark strip on the body: When these strips are regular and clear, the fish is good. If the strips are mixed up, the quality is poor owing to excessive in-breeding. For wildcaught adoketa, the strips are very very clear and neat

If it is available at a price of US10-12, it is extremely cheap... i acquired my pair of wildcaught with over 1000 US dollars

Thats the price for wild caught specimen! 1k+USD certainly is for very avid dwarf cichlid enthusiast. Sad but true, What you spend is what you get

right... anyhow, paying more doesn't always guarantee quality... my recent acquisition of a pair of eliza from German Glaser is a super disappointing one...

And also wild caught doesn't necessarily means superior quality. Have seen some wild caught that looks worst than farm bred.

The chances are higher in getting a 'better' pair. Better can be subjective. Buying fish without seeing them is just like playing Russian roulette. There are always black sheeps among the white and white sheep among the blacks
    Cheers!

That is one reason why i prefer to handpick my apistos. And if this is not an option, have someone who knows apistos pick for me.
