Anyone know how to get rid of the snails in a 1.5ft planted shrimp tank.

I cannot use any chemicals as shrimps are very sensitive and will die. My tank in main planted with riccia on the base and a wall of Xmas moss. The temperature of the water is maintained at 25deg.

The population of the surl snails are getting out of hand. Anyone here know how curb the snail infestion?

    Please advise.

I tried this, off the light at night for a few hours till the fellas comes out, then on the lights and siphon them out with a small hose, a couple of times and reduction will be noticeable
    ...I love rubies too ...

construct a trap with holes big enough for the snails to crawl in. Place some food in it... like algae wafers, etc. I think boiled veggie's also can - ask the Pleco-maniacs. Place overnight, remove in the morning.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

For me, the Indian Dwarf puffer works. But it will only work properly if you dun have tetras or any slow swimming fish in there.

I had purposely breed a whole lot of snails in my tank and all the snails are gone in a short while....

Puffer fish won't work as it may start to eat the shrimps when the snails are gone.

If the puffer have enough snails to eat, it will leave those shrimps alone right? So far, I have not seen my puffer attack shrimps. Maybe because my shrimps are all bigger in size than the puffer [].

For your info, the shrimps in my tank are cherry shrimps which are about 1cm in size. So I don't think I can afford to put a puffer fish in. As for using the trap to trap the snails sounds better. Will give it a try.

Better not. A few of those cherry shrimps cost more than the puffer. Anything you put in will feed on those shrimps.

vinz is right. i heard that ppl use a transparent container to set as trap.
use a small glass jar and place some boiled veges or anything that would attract snails into it. then leave it overnight. remove in the morning and it should decrease the no. of snails.
