Initially I have problem introducing Yamatos. Recently, I managed to do so by aclimatising them very slowly. Still, I lost 50%. The remaining ones are doing ok now.
Another thing that kill Yamatos is Flourish Excel.

I am doing about that level of co2 too (pH=7; kH=11). My Yamatos couldn't survive at that level and I've since stop putting them into my tank. My Rainbows are always near the water surface during the early hours in the morning too. Do you have any problems with your shrimps or fishes?
Yeah, one more thing, what was your last po4 measure? Did it drop? Like to know.

Really.
Last time, every time I add Excel, the next day my malayan or yamato will turn out dead. BTW, I was dosing on the higher side of the recommendation.
Anyway, I have totally stopped Excel.

Haven't noticed any dead shrimps in my tank... I'll go check later. Very easy... just replanted and there are only four large ones right now.
I'm also dosing on the high side of the recommendation. I'm only using it cause my CO2 regulator gauge was leaking. Finally got it changed today.

Hah... then I think I may have accused the wrong suspect for murdering my shrimps and sent him to the death row.
Anyway, shrimps are really sensitive CO2. When I intro them to my tank, they were struggling to get to the surface. So I remove them again. I then slowly add the tank water into the pail of the original water. Even then, I lost 25%. After 1 week, I lost another 25%. Now, I think they got used to it and no more shrimp deaths.

BC,
I haven't installed the CO2 yet. Testing the regulator for leakage. Must be the Excel.

Dear Vinz,
I can assure you that Flourish Excel is not the cause. The majority
of the planted aquariums in our facility contain shrimp and Flourish
Excel is used daily in these same systems on a daily basis. I
personally use in excess of 5x the recommended dose of this product
daily.
