update with moss tied to rock...
![]()
here is my first attempt after waiting a few weeks for the tank to completely cycle. Disregard the javamoss, because i am out to purchase some line to tie it down later today. I would like to hear some feedback.
-one of the obvious issues is that i need more plants.
-some recommendations would be great.

Hi, in my opinion more plants should be added. maybe add in some dw or rocks to make your tank less empty. By the way is that java fern you have? it's better to tie them to dw or rocks. planting them into subtrate will kill them.
first off, like to welcome you to AQ and planted tank. from your photo, there are a few things you might want to take note
like what equidorz mentioned, the fern need to be tied on driftwood and also, they are in the emersed form, hence they will change. Same goes to the anubias, tie it on a driftwood or the roots will rot.
I do not know what fish you intend to keep, but a heater is really unnecessary, we hobbyist are finding ways to cool down the tank in Singapore, not the other way round. The position of the inlet pipe could be moved to the left corner so it doesn't distract the view
second observe is the same of the gravel is slightly too big, ideally 2-3mm diameter will be more suitable for planted tank. Notice the thickness of substrate is rather thin, so I'm assuming you do not have a base fertiliser substrate on top of the gravel?
finally, you really need 'More' plants, take in considering you currently have, you should be planting like 10x more for inital scaping
thanks for all the tips. i now realize how little i know about planted aquariums. I fixed the java fern and the anubius and added several species of plants. I am very pleased with the results; the tank looks great.
i will have updates of the revamped tank in a week or so.
cheers!
keep us inform. You have a great wide tank, make use of the spaces. Would help great if you spend some time searching for Nano/tank setup galleries and can follow accordingly. Good luck.
Bro,
Try to plant more dense. Get a few piece of bogwood with ferns from aquarium shop. I think it will form a nice background. Great start! Keep it up!
get inspirations from other tank to decide what kind of tank you really want. Flora arrangement type/ iwagumi type/ jungle/wilderness type etc. Then find hardscapes like rocks, pebbles, wood to help giving your scape a 'character'. I think you'll need more substrate as your current substrate layer is too thin and flat as mentioned. Having a thicker one will allow you to create small hills and elevations.
