I am using NLS cichlid formula. They are quite expensive.
I feed mine with tetra bits and flakes too.

The ones I bought are old stock, so pretty cheap.
The newer packing, small bottle cost $11.

from what i've read, the different formulas of NLS are actually very similar with only slight modifications, so it doesn't matter which you get. For apistos, try Thera A (for the garlic) or discus formula

I saw 'all purpose formula' not sure whether that can or not. So Thera A and discus formula also can? Ok i will go and try.

i would recommend the discus formula. they are after all cichlids that have slightly higher requirements i've found generally that if something is good enough for discus, it's excellent for apistos

hmm.. true as discus also belong to the cichlids family. I think i will get a small container and try it up. If the result is good then i will upgrade.

I feed them with live daphina, tetra pro color and frozen bloodworm. Going to try NLS 'discus formula'.

    doubleace,
I think your current feed is quite sufficient. Tetra pro color is good, some bros here are using them. NLS now have small, medium and large pellets as opposed to the ones I have, one size for all. Till now my apistos are taking NLS sparingly, they don't like the NLS. No need to change if they like the tetra pro.

hmm.. currently saw my femmale is moving all the soil from inside the coconut husk and block the entrance to make it smaller. And the male is digging hole below 1 of the DW.

    Still waiting for some surprise...

looks like you'll have good news for us soon

P.S. so what did you decide to feed your fish in the end? i just got NLS 2 weeks ago and have been feeding my 2 pairs of apisto and 1 pair of betta with it daily...no problems acclimitizing, and i do see more intense colouration now, especially on the bitaeniata
