water change is the key. Do more frequent water change to induce spawning. Give them media to lay their eggs on.
Oh one more thing, DO not stress them by staring at them too much. They prefer privatecy =)

was just wondering how often u change the water for ure 1 ft tanks? btw,i'm using eden 304...is the chance of the filter sucking in the fries high? they should have lotsa places to lay eggs...2,3 caves and a drift wood with a hollow middle =) plus java fern for cover...[]
When i got the time to breed them and i want them to lay eggs, i'll change every 3-4days 50% of the water, this will induce them to spawn.
I do also cover my tank when i wan them to breed, to prevent any sudden shock when i enter .
Cheers!

Wah Benetay, reading ur post makes me feel like giving it a try at breeding apistos. If I were 2 get a 2ft tank, can I set it up as a planted tank 4 them 2 breed? I may want 2 use Eheim internal filter, will the 2008 be enuf? I also has a spare 2222 lying ard, could I use this iso getting the 2008?![]()
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.

if u wan to be more successful or increase yr chances, intro them into a matured planted tank.

my planted tank has quite a few fishes...scared they would feed on the fry....plus i wanna combat my bba on my xmas moss problem first...[]

what fishes u have in there? plus how big is that tank? my agassizii tefe is constantly breeding in my 6ft with 10 altums, 40+ rummynose, plus 10+ other tetras and 4 A. iniridae in there.. ohhh and plus 10+ corys and a bristlenose pleco
BFG: No problem, it's actually good to setup planted tank for apisto to live in, 2x2008 will be sufficient if your bioload is low. If you just intend to put 1 pair of apisto inside, then it's more then enuff. Breeding apisto isn't that real difficult task..Give it a try!

i have 9 neons,5 black neons,1 honey gourami (the other died[] ) one balloon ram (trying to find a male for it..dunno where sell, she seems to be in the "mood" turn yellow with bright pink belly),3 ottos and 2 sae and 1 cory cat...my planted also does not have a cave like thingy for them nor do i think it has space...cos there i growing java moss on rock for gf now,and its where i would place a cave should i put the apistos in...
I don't think it's a great idea to put in a pair, Cory cats are egg hunters, while tetra will be fry eaters. If a bigger tank like a 4ft is not use, then it's really challanging for the parents and the rest of the tank mates.
oto and sae still quite okay with apisto.
Cheers!

agreed...which is why i not very keen in putting them in the planted tank...cos mines only 2ft...thanx for all the advice ben..[]
