Currently, I already have PH, KH and GH test kits. May want to get the Iron and NO3 test kits too. However, wondering it is necessary? If yes, which is the better brand to start with? Have come across those from Dupla; anyone use their product before? Please advise. Thanks.

IMO, Fe and NO3 test kits are not necessary if u maintain a strict fertilization and water changing schedule.

Thanks; so, these Fe and NO3 test kits are not really needed. How about any other test kits which are really needed beside what I already have? Thanks.

Personally, I think NO3 and PO4 test kits are useful for learning about planted tank. Fe on the other may not be so critical but give you good information.

Without these kits, you will be making guess works. If say an algae attack happen, with the tests tests, you can immediately tell what parameter have deviated.

To me, these kits are very useful to learn about the mechanics of the planted tank. Without them, you will be just guessing.

Thanks BC, I agree totally. I am learning right now and thus intend to get the test kit for this purpose. Any brand recommendation?

    I agree with BCLee.

I've used Sera and JBL. JBL colour charts are hard to read... Sera colours are quite accurate.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I have come across the Dupla's test kit and just wondering it is accurate? However, it is quite expensive. Anyone uses those from Dupla before?

Currently, I am using those from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals for my pH,KH and GH test kit and are quite please with them. May be getting this brand NO3 but seem like no LFS carrying it anymore. If anyone see these test kit by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals in any LFS, please let me know. Thanks.

I've seen C328 carrying some Aquarium Pharmaceuticals test kits, can't remember if there was a NO3 one though.

Got the AP HN3/4 and NO2 kits from them sometime back. They are cheap and good.

    Hi BC,

do you find the Sera NO3 test sort of cumbersome.

Have to put in two types of reagents plus that strange grey powder thing []

Any idea if NO3 test kits from JBL or some other brands are easier to use?

I have used Dupla, JBL and Sera NO3 test kits. Sera's colours are the easiest to differentiate. Dupla one worse than JBL. I recommend sera for your NO3 and PO4 test kits.

So sera's NO3 test kit is good but troublesome. Hummm...wondering if Aquarium Pharmaceuticals's NO3 good? Anyone could advise? Thanks.

BTW, does AP has PO4 test kit? Err..do not remember seeing any I think.

Me using Sera kH and NO3. No complaints.

I think other NO3 tester is just as troublesome.
    Cheers!!

the complain i have with sera no3 test kit is why can't they make the black powder into a liquid form.
to get 1 scoop out you need to tilt the spoon and bottle at certain angle else you get nothing.
also it is guessing work each time.

The colour charts on Sera NO3 and PO4 kits are definitely very good. Heard feedback on difficulty to read the color gradient on other kits.
