For the past couple of days, the pair has been showing signs of an upcoming spawn. And since yesterday morning i have not seen the female coming out of the cave i provided for them yet. Not even when it is feeding time. Normally the female will be the more greedy of the 2. But today i have not seen even her shadow.
Using a torch light, i confirmed that she is in the cave. And the male has been hanging around the tank as usual. But the thing is that i notice the male will not go into the cave as i usually does. And the other thing i notice is that the male has got some splitting of its tail fins. Meaning the female did attack him when he went into the cave.
I tried to see if there were any eggs in the caves but i could not do so as the openning is too small.
Now i have a question. Should i remove the male? I am not too sure if there are any eggs with the female. Need some advices guys!

Stay cool and dont disturb the tank, very likely it is a spawn taken place. Please dont shine the touch light into the cave as the female will not like it.The female will come out of the cave with the fries when they are hatch in next 4-6 days.Continue to monitor the male that it didnt turn aggressive towards the female and fries. Some male will actually help to take care of the fries. My male just stay out from the whole process but turn aggressive two weeks later and I had to remove it.
Please put in some moss and tidy up the surrounding with the least disturbance.

Start learning how to hatch baby brine shrimps if you want to keep the frys. Good luck.

Get a bbs hatchery dish for long term usage, easy and hassle-free.....
Remember to get good quality eggs, don't fall for the cheap ones with low hatch rate

    Hi all,
    Thanks for all the replies.
I guess it's a either a false alarm of i have stressed up the female and she ate up all her eggs. Now she is out in the open again. But once again they are showing signs of spawning. Male trying to entice the female into the breeding cave again.

Bro, why not you try checking them out late at night? Around 12 midnight on your tank light then gently use your hand take out the pot and see got any eggs a not? Have or don't have eggs quickly put back the pot at original position.
Confirm 100% you will know whether or not if there're eggs without disturbing your fishes.
Hope to heard from you that my plan works.
The tatic is simple yet effective. If not you won't know whether got eggs or not.

Don't think i am skilled enough to do that without disturbing the fishes big time.
I guess i will just have to let nature takes it's course and wait.

Not advisable. Unless you do not mind losing the brood. If there are eggs, the female will be guarding them. Removing the pot with the female inside may spook her and she may end up eating her eggs.

Not saying cannot be done. You can try but there is risk. I did once too as well, not knowing the pot had fries in it. Lifted the whole pot out of water.

False alarm the last time round. But this time i think they have spawned for real. I have not seen the female for 2 days already and she is in the cave all the time. Seems like she tending to the eggs. I will post up photos when she brings the fries out whe nthey are free swimming. So keepings my toes crossed for now.

My 1st pair of apisto caca "orange flash" spawned just 2 weeks ago

The estimation its around 7-8 days before they be free swimming

You should start hatching bbs around the 5th day of eggs hatched, slightly after the frys are at wrigglers stage

You can store the extra bbs in washed bloodworms trays (and put in ziplog bags in freezer) and feed to the frys whenever you feel they are hungry

Mine quite a big brood, around 60 frys, I didn't know apistos had so many frys.
