If you don't mind the look, I wrapped a rubber band around the top and bottom and it works like a charm for my shrimp tank.
i just got this round black sponge thing to attach to the inlet of my canister. i would like to know the correct way to attach it.
currently i took out the net type thing that comes with the filter and just stuffed the sponge up the inlet.
might be keeping shrimps soon and was wondering if they will crawl up the hole at the bottom >?

Use plastic cable tie ………. Or sort like tidy wires (for tie electrical things one) …… or those pre-filter fiber sponge which have empty in the middle, would last pretty much longer …….

thanks for the suggestions. mine is the cylinder type. which is hollow down the middle. so after attaching to the inlet i just close up the bottom with cable tie?

ya i think cable tie is a good idea...
To make it look more pleasant, you can always buy the close bottom type.
For me, if it is eheim type, just remove the bottom net and stick in the black sponge.
