Smile Hello - A new member to the family

    Hello everyone,

I have a planted tank at home.It is a small tank with the Cardinal tetra and Cherry shrimps as the inhabitants, and the snails of course as my uninvited guest. Still learning about plants, mainly the common and scientific names of these plants. I've used naturally produced carbon dioxide system to supply the required carbon dioxide for my plants. Not forgetting the additional trace elements that i give. Hope to share my 2.5 feet planted tank photos with you all soon.

    regards,

    Shazzman

thanks the welcome. I'm currently soaking the driftwood that I got a few days back. I'm intending to soak it for 1-2 weeks. Then only I'll set up the tank. I'll post some pics then.

Meanwhile, just to keep you guys updated, what I intend to set up is somewhat more like a paludarium, of a riverbank theme. The closest pic I can find that describe what I intend to do is this:

    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...2&d=1141125287

    The main differences are:
    1) My version is much smaller than that. It will have just a wood, which is half-submerged in water, and perhaps some bigger-than-pebble rocks.
    2) I'm looking at getting emersed plants on the wood. Anyone any idea what plants are good on wood? I'm looking at getting moss or riccia at the water interface and the tip of the wood. And also an ‘anchor’ plan on the wood.
    3) I'll be putting in smaller fishes, maybe just a pair, and I'll be having shrimps
    4) I'm still searching for the right soil to use. I was thinking of using black soil, but might in the end use a mixture of black/ brown/ white soil to create the river effect. Any suggestion?
    5) There's no waterfall, or filtration system.

I’ll try to sketch out what I intend to do and post it here…

    Hi Andrephua,
Nice to hear that you have started your workout on the tank, but I think is not suitable to place between the LCD monitor and printer. It's going to be humid and water evaporation may wear off your electronic items. Because of the problem changing water, top up, planting and netting out algae etc. This is my 2 cents.
