Bought 5 rummy nose and 6 harlequin from 328 yesterday. Noticed white spots developing on 3 fishes now. Worried the existing faunas will contract the disease. I have dosed Melafix since yesterday. Any suggestion on what to do? Mine is a planted tank just established about a month.

Melafix does not treat white spots specifically. You can try Protozin from the brand Waterlife. It works well for treatment of whitespots in planted aquaria and it's a seven day course. In the meantime, keep the temperature at 28/29 degrees celcius if you are running a chiller/fan.

Do keep us updated of the development.

Just to confirm, Protozin has no adverse effect in my planted tank. I have just dozed my tank with Seachem flourish 3 days back then noticed white spots. Infact one harlequin has a white growth on its mouth. My everlasting black widow tetras (2 1/2 years old) have torn fins now. Kind of worried!

Bro, you might consider setting up an isolation tank to house the infected, this will help you contain the infection better. But bear in mind to detox the main tank too. Melafix does not treat white spot effectively based on my past experience. Just my 5 cent input.

Thanks for your input bro. I have isolated 1 rummy nose and 2 harlequins but seems the others in the tank have been infected. Furthermore its is hard to remove it from the tank. Heavily planted and takes me a long time to catch them. I ll try the protozin but only worried about the side effects on my plants.

One more question before I start dozing my tank with Protozin. Can I use sEachem flourish concurrently with Protozin?

No worries about Waterlife's Protozin affecting common aquatic plants. You can use Seachem Flourish during the course. No problem.

Bought Protozin last night and the instruction indicated 'not suitable for shrimps'. Mine is a planted tank with some shrimps. Have not dose the tank yet. Don't wish to sacrifice my shrimps to treat ICH. Any input on this matter?

    ck,

Looks like whitespot may not be the only problem. But it's still possible to treat if you act fast enough. Don't delay any further if you want to save the fish. But it will be a challenge to see what's causing the sunken stomach.

My cardinal (2 years old) has sunken stomach too. It has been that way for over 6 months now. Still surviving.

    Guys

Where can I get this Waterlife Protozin med? I have a bottle of the Rid-all series med for white spot and noticed that they are both blue in colour (should contain something called Methly Blue cannot remember the full term). Are they both the same?
My concern are my plants taking to the medication. Also some of you mentioned salt as in aquarium salt or Epsom salts?
Thanks for the advice in advance.

Waterlife is commonly available at a lot of fish shops. I normally buy mine from Clementi. It's very different from the Rid All range of products.

The salt used is aquarium salt.
