What's his rationale behind using mineral water?
Have seen a short clip by foreign countries that a Crystal Red Shrimp keeper uses mineral water to change a huge percentage of his tank's water. His tank of Crystal Red Shrimps consist of high grades shrimps.
Have any Crystal Red Shrimp keepers here use mineral water eg. voda voda or other brands to top up or change your crs tank water? If so, what are the effects to your shrimps? Most importantly, is there any deaths encountered?
Personally, i tried before topping up my tank's water with a 1.5 litre of mineral water. Took the water from an office's big water dispenser. No deaths were encountered and shrimps are behaving as per normal.
I surveyed a supermarket and some brands that are selling there are Life, NTUC, Voda Voda, Volvic, Evians and a few others. (Pardon my spelling of the brands). Some of them are just purified water, some are spring water. Wonder how each of them will affect the shrimps? Personally i only tried mineral water.

What's his rationale behind using mineral water?
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
This has been discussed and the conclusion is the water in SG is safe and has sufficient mineral thus mineral is not recommended or not a must..
as for overseas, some places has water with very high PH or water with very minimal mineral or for whatever reason thus leading the person to use mineral water..
But whatever it is, distilled/pure water should NEVER be used..
This one i am not too sure. My guess is because the water has minerals for the shrimps and it should be free from chlorine and other harmful stuff. Furthermore, he dares to do more than 50 percent water change for the tank. It shows the amount of confidence that guy has with mineral water.

that tank was full of mosura right? i think its a guy from HK..
anyway.. to change more than 50% water using water bottle like vodavoda.. its not gonna be cheap leh...
Thats right. The tank was full of high grades crs, i cannot remember if it was mosuras.
I am sourcing for large amount mineral water. Currently, the only place i can think of is those office water dispenser.
Bro mtanec, care to enlighten why distilled water should not be used? Thanks.
Mineral water should be okay right?

I actually used 100% mineral water without cycling for my CRs and Cherries. They're doing well for more then 2 weeks and in fact the cherries've given birth. I am housing them in a one foot tank. Btw i am using Ice Mountain Mineral water. I chose to use it because i don't wanna cycle my small 1 foot tank and my tap water killed many of my shrimps even after adding anti-chlorine and keeping it over night.
May I know which anti-chlorine did you use?
Hi,
Even though i am not a CRS keeper, i think most people are doing well with the current routine of using conditioners to remove harmful materials from our tapwater. Personally i find it wasteful to use bottled water for such a purpose and its not doing our environment much credit.
Maybe you would like to try Seachem Prime, lots of of the members are using it...
interesting concept ...i wont mind adopting it as long as its good for my shrimps. in my view sg tap water is getting from bad to worst and ph is very unstable really...
agree man! its not like before when i can just use straight from the tap with little cycling needed. i also heard different area have different Ph. it fluctuates.
ooo ... the name sounds professional man haha. but do you guys cycle the tank even after adding anti chlorine? or can i use it straight after leaving over night? thanks!

For me, i filled up a pail of water then add anti-chlorine... I leave it for at least 2 days before using it for my tank...
surveyed NTUC, so far cheapest brand of mineral water is Ice Mountain. Anyone knows of even cheaper brands?
Next is to measure the pH value of Ice Mountain mineral water.

Think any cheaper will be distilled water and they lack those minerals, if we're looking for minerals. i just use it so i save the hassle of cycling and anti-chlorine. Btw i bot my for 1 buck per 1.5 and a provision shop in Yishun.
I am keeping CRS in my tank also, and I don't use any anti-chlorine at all. I normally do a WC (30%) weekly with overnight water store more than a week. I am storing the water in 4 dispenser 8L bottle, usually only requires to use 2 bottles, the other two bottles will be used in the next WC.
It is FOC if anyone wants to have these bottles, these are actually our distilled water dispenser bottle which we regularly consumed and throwed away after that.
i think ice mountain is more of drinking water than mineral water if i am not wrong.
for me usually when i drink bottles labelled with mineral water i will feel my throat alittle sore if i drink too much of it but ice mountain never gives me this feeling before. i think ice mountain is closer to tap water but i am not sure of the chlorine and stuff as i have never taken note of the content listed on the bottles
If it is HK, then the more possible the people are not using the water from the tap.. even Human beings are not drinking the water directly from the tap.. Even the girls who are particular about their face wash their face with bottle water and not with water from tap!! The water source is from China where the river is quite polluted.. thus they are using bottled water instead..
Why not distilled water.. Because of it purity.. When water is too pure, it is lacking of the mineral that shrimps require to survive..
Mineral water on the other hand have to watchout that it does not contain harmful mineral (such as metal component or lead which are deadly)..
Tap water is a better choice as the content is well balanced and safe for consumption (apart from chlorine)..
