FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.

The thing is the tap water in my area is always around a pH reading of 8 or more. Worry that it might have a adverse effect for the plecos and tetras.
Wah ! the pH in ur area is 8 or more ! man ! where are u putting up ?. I usually do partial water change ( 25%) straight from the pipeline ! no prob. pH at my area is abt 7.----------------

Remember someone mentioned that the tap water from the HDB storage tank somehow goes thru' a short period of " aging " before we use it. Alternatively u can "age" the water for a few days b4 water change.[]

I don add BW in my tank cos my tank is full of drift wood[] .Anyway pleco is ok with PH round 6~7.5. I change 30% of water twice a week direct from tap.So far ok. My tap water PH swing between 7.3~7.8. The idea is don change water more than 50%. With the small amount mix of water, the plecos should be alright
Happy plecoing!!!
Nope, no BW cos make planted tank look like drain water...
Have some driftwood of course
Only change water Bi-monthly [dun wish to drink my tank water when i drink Newater][:]
The key to success is patience. If that fails, screw the guy in front of you!!
Hi Akoh, i'm staying in CCK. The tap water here tends to be more on the alkaline side, how? I dont think I can afford to age water, no space in the house for that!
If that's the case, u better do minimum partial water change with anti chlorine/chlormaine, Cheers !----------------

How about getting a cheap tall cannister filter and fill it up with peat.
Maybe can use carbon at the first stage to help get rid of chlorine. Then when you change water run the water from the tap through the cannister.
I wonder if this will work, you probably need a lot of peat.
Adding peat moss is a good idea but putting carbon must be carefully monitor. I use to have peat moss in the filter for my wild discus tank without carbon. They like it very much. The water PH is maintain at 5.5~6.2. My tap water is also 7.5~7.8.----------------

Is the peat moss for use for a period of time only or can it be use forever??
My peat Moss has been in my filter for more than 2 years. No problem at all.
