This good looking specimen was found as a contaminant among the wild caught Apistogramma agassizii "Manicore" shipment from Biotope. Currently house in a tank of his on in Biotope and colouring up.

Anyone here knows which specie he is? I think its either an Ap. pulchra or Ap. gephyra. Maybe the experts here can advice.

But then again, there are 2 lateral lines on his body.... Both Ap. pulchra and Ap. gephyra should have a solid line.

Hmm. Interesting... Colors are off so can't really tell from the coloration. But that's a handsome fish!

Could be one of the following..

    • Apistogramma sp. 'Miua"
    • Juvenile Apistogramma paucisquamis
    • Apistogramma pulchra
    • Apistogramma sp. "chingarno"

If it's a contaminant from the wild caught Apistogramma agassizii "Manicore" shipment, then Apistogramma sp. "chingarno" will be quite likely as they are from the same location. However, the lateral line is a single thick line, not double. Head shape seem a tad rounder too.

    Anyway, have fun guessing!

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

My guess will be Pulchra from novo aripuana. Just further upstream or down from Manicore.
    Cheers!

The face looks identical. Hoping that the no labeled apisto grow up nice and well doesn't matter if it's pulchra or chingarno they're almost identical with many cf around.

I don't have the text with me but i'm sure someone might be able to give us some insights or text regarding the both.

    Cheers!

    1)pulchra
    2)unknown
    3)Chingarno

I would go for A.pulchra. The big big caudal spot seems to suggest A.pulchra after comparing the pictures in CA1 with Eugene's picture.

Ya i believe with text it will be far easier to distinguish. Some of the apisto do have mutually exclusive features that others don't.

eg: Diplo has 2 very distinct lateral lines. (Thought one broad line diplo has been discovered)

    Thanks Vincent.
    Cheers!

I used to have female A. elizabethae with a single blotch instead of double.

The double lateral line threw some of us off because the pictures in the text doesn't have the double line. Only the big caudal spot. And the key in the book is difficult to use!

Anyone thinking of getting this guy as a show apisto in their planted tank? The finnage of this guy is superb in my opinion.
