Hi all, just confirmed that the pair had spawned when I shine the touchlight into the cave where the female is hidding for the past few days.
Keep my finger cross, saw less than 10 eggs inside, not sure can raise up how many of them to juvenile.
Common problem happen again, tank not enough.........

one 1ft tank to hold the viejita female and eggs
one 1ft tank to hold the viejita male and agassizii super red pair
one plasma tank to hold 30 plus agassizii super red juvenile
    I need more tank.................

haha story of an apisto keeper's life: not enough tanks!

congrats on your spawn. don't shine your torch into the cave anymore, or you might startle the female into eating her eggs. judging from the number of eggs, your pair is probably still young and inexperienced. you'll get more eggs with future spawns

There is no definite number of eggs but a range . If i still can recall A.caca can easily have up to 120 eggs per clutch. The only exceptional few are the smaller apisto like diplo, tri, etc .

I believe it's more dependent on size? I don't have A.tri having 120 eggs( can the female hold so many?) i doubt so.

Generally Viej should have around 60-80 at lease considering their size. A.diplo are said to have an avg of 40 eggs or so.

    Cheers!

    Hi Richard,
Trying to sell my house now,the female may be stress by the people coming for viewing as I need to switch on the light which is not usually on at night.
My wife allow me to re-organised the tank which means better setup for keeping Apistogramma.
I will be getting Nikon 40X next week so can start shoting my collection.
I will PM you for some lesson on taking good shot on the fishes.

Hi, apisto fans, i'm curious with regards the juveniles. Does it means when they grow older, you need to seperate the males into individual tanks just like how they do with fighting fishes? Otherwise they will flare and bite at each other correct?

Not at the 1st few month when they are in juvenile stage.I have a batch of 30 plus is housing in a single tank now for the last 3 month.I dont think that they are as aggressive as fighting fish.
