for spotted algae, best way is to rely on a glass scaper.. no one does a better job than it

I had used flower snails to clear spotted algae on glass. But it somehow left behind some hard round whitish spots all over the tank including on my wood and rocks.

The best way to remove it would be manually scrapping it off. A good tool would be the Tetratec glass scrapper. Not cheap either, around $25.
    Cheers!!

the cheaper alternative would be the taiwanese brand.. ard $10, jus change the blade to the one used by the tetratec scaper.. plus it has a longer handle

Yah.. phone card also can work... but it's quite hard to see what you're sraping. I will ask my wife to look at the glass from the front while I scrape with the card. For smaller tanks, no problem.
    Cheers!!

yup! it kinda hard to see.
you'll need to feel the tank surface as you scrape along. and most of the time there will be some missed spots.
maybe can paint the card white.

How about using a soft tootbrush? I find it quite suitable for a small tank. For bigger tank, it would be quite tedious.

    I use green wool.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I was gonna ask about the flower snails in a new thread. Anyone else used them? Effective for small tanks?

I've been scraping with a small transparent cup... you know those that you use for measuring medicine dosage?

    Very effective too.
