    Hi guys,

The one in my light set broke. It was old, yellowed and brittle.

Tried to get from a few shops, whilst they are willing to cut it, they don't seem to have such thin ones. Tried asking shops like Polyart and C328 but they do not have either.

Anyone knows of shops that custom cut acrylic sheets? Please list the shop details and contact here. Thanks!

Another thought that I have is to replace it with glass ones instead. Thinking that at least it wouldn't yellow. Thin glass is also not easy to find either.

    cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Hi Benny,

What are the drawbacks of not using any cover for the lights?

I'm using air pumps, so the tubes and reflects will be soaked wet and soiled.

    hi Benny,

Thin glass is avaliable from the two glass merchants opposite Alexander hospital.. I walked by them everyday and see plenty of those. You may want to consider checking out the place or alternatively you can let me know the thickness you want and i will check for you timorrow. You have my number right?

my 3ft had no protection for some time, having a hard time looking for it cause the width is 2.2" thickness seem not more then 1mm. My light is mh at the middle and both 3ft at the side, in order to prevent water contact i hang it apart from surface at 1.5ft, but at this distance turning on both 3ft tubes is a waste. I think most of our members more or less do have this wear and tear on the acrylic protection. I was thinking maybe someone would organize a mass request for our guys and forward to vendor; might get better price and respond, how about that? Bro benny if you are calling in can ask for me also? beside my 3ft both of my 2ft also crack and yellowish. a thousand thanks.

    Benny,

    2mm is common.
    dama enterprises
    their number is 6743 6100 (30 Lines)
    address: 3029-a, ubi road 3, 01-98/99, singapore 408661

there are a few units over there. go to the unit at blk 3029. go up the stairs on the right and approach one of the staff. provide your dimensions and choose the colour. they have samples to show you as well. after ordering, you can look around their show room while they cut the acrylic. you'll need to go to the ground floor to collect.

Another option is to drop by Art Friend Bras Basah and get Acrylic sheet + Acrylic blade and cut yourself.

They're selection of Acrylic is good, with many colours and thickness. Price estimate - 6 ft x 8ft x 2 mm is $52.

how thin does acrylic need to be for me to be able to bend it into an arc for a long period of time and not have it crack? or do any of the above merchants sell acrylic that has been bent to a C shape?

Yup. That hardware shop is just at the corner of the multistory carpark that is next to the CC. I believe the name of the shop is called "Fu An" or something.

bro you intend to set up step in your tank? i bend it to around C shape using 0.6mm i think thinner sheet more flexible can withstand bending

if the acrylic is not too thick, ie 1mm/1.5mm, you might be able to bend it to shape using hot blower ( or a very hot hairdryer place real close to the area you need to bend ). Heat it up and u can mould it while it is still mallable, it will retain its shape till heated up again. Hope this helps.

Cool thanks I'm thinking of using acrylic either to have steps/terraces like kiv mentioned or as a partition for different kinds of substrate (e.g. sand in front and soil behind) so they won't mix over time.
