My yamato will always uproot my new plants.. for other shrimps i do not have that problem.
I do plant hairgrass too.. what i learn is that must plant the hairgrass deeper, around 1cm deep in.. so it wont uproot by yamatos..
    Hope thats helps

Yamatos are able to do that.. thats WHAT my yamato did to my hairgrass..!
They are able to flip the soil grain.

I mix green and red soil as my substance.. each is like 1mm to 2mm big too.. you can try if you want.. thats what i experience ..
My yamatos are around 2 to 3cm big.. you can plant hairgrass.. but make sure it is deep enough..

yes they do strong enough to roll the soil grain, I never see them carry though except for the food . If they strong enough to carry 1/8 of algae wafer, they should be strong enough to carry the soil. By the way my yamato is more than 1 inch long, maybe 1.5 inches.

Anyway, you can plant them deeper, as "crayonboi" said, that what I usually do and it is easier to plant them that way

In my experience, I do not encounter Yamatos uprooting hairgrass. Maybe if the hairgrass were newly planted and not taken root yet, it is possible they might get dislodged and float away when the Yamatos are cleaning them.

Yamato will do a better job in eating/clearing the alage..
but it is better to employ yamato when your plants is mature..

plant your hairgrass deep in.. then reduce your yamato propulation for the time been so that you hairgrass can root in.. thats what i do for my hairgrass too.. just a suggestion.

It time to cook your yamatos with instant noodle liao!! Joking bro.

Maybe you wish to get rid of the big yamatos & start with small size again. This is what I did.

    Hope this help.

Also facing the same problem. Hairgrass stagnant growth. Not spreading and growing short. The yamatos help to shorten my hairgrass too. Maybe contain the yamatos and allow hairgrass to have some significant growth before releasing them.

For my Yamatos they are not doing the uprooting problem, but they are really selfish eaters!!!
