I just got this second hand solenoid (mass magnet from germany, sunwell) from a ebayer. However, after 15 mins when i connect it to my tank, i heard sparks and smoke coming out from my solenoid, water vapour inside it as well. And smells of burnt stuff. What can I do? Is it gone for good?

did you check the voltage written on the solenoid? 110 or 240?

i've got the same problem before. my solenoid also the nass magnet thingy. some of the plastic in the solenoid melted. what i can suggest will be to go down to NA and let mr chan check out what's wrong with your solenoid and he will advise you accordingly. if it is the problem with the solenoid, a simple replacement of it will cost around 2 red notes.
