Crypt conversion from emerse to submerse

Hi,

Is it advisable to cut off emerse crypts leaves while converting to submerse state?

Read from some article that the emerse leave will consume up the nutrients stored at the rosette/roots. This may cause the crypts to die or rather unhealthy.

if the plant specimen seems to be strong, then cutting away some leaves is fine, leaving the more healthy one behind. I only cut when you observe new growth or when the leaves rotted away.

You can also cut the roots short as most will rot too. As long as the rhziome is there, roots will put out.

Last year, i bought a huge chunk of emmersed crypts from a farm(extended growth, attached over i guess 2 yrs) and i did try to trim some of of the leaves. nothing much different in terms of survival rate after i immerse into my tank. think it is due to the fact that when u intro a crypt into a new environment, it will not be ready to continue growth no matter the type of environment switch. hence the depletion of the stored energy in the rhizome.
My point being, the reaction of the plant would be same as that of normal introduction to new tanks. if it does appear to die, it may not be the case. just a temporary status.

How long will the rhizome survive without new leaves?

I have dug out some rhizomes from my previous tank & they looked like green stems, just without the leaves. From what i've recalled they were my c.timahensis planted a year ago and i thought they have melted and died.

Is it in dormant state? If it is, it's the longest dormant period i've ever seen. Will they ever grow new shoots? How do i make them grow again?

rhziome is the next best way to grow and propagate cryptocoryne.

If the rhziomes are still tough. not melting, you can try to grow them emerse, with the soil soaked.

HI RHX, if you want to try Propagation from rhizome, you can try place it in a enclose container with some soil. and place near to lighting. You should be able to get it to grow.

Ya, i think i'll try to revive them in emerse form. Will start shopping for pots & glass containers tomorrow.

I'll place it in my balcony, where it'll get more light. Do i have to take note of the temperature when growing emerse?

Yes, if too hot, you will fry the rhizome, and you see it rot off.
