Bleaching riccia n' x'mas moss to rid algae possible?

Hi folks, i read about mixing one part bleach with 19 parts water n' soaking plants in them to rid algae. has anyone tried that and find that it works?

also, can riccia n' x'mas moss withstand the bleaching process?

take it easy mate. what kills the algae could also kill your plants or worse your fish as well.

reduce feeding, plant more fast growing plants, get some shrimps and wait for a few weeks ... they shd go away. i know they look awlful and it feels frustrating but i guess like most plant keeping ... patience is key.

i think this bleaching method only good for certain hardy plants like echinodorus.. but when bleach, soak only the top leave portion and not the roots.. I havent not tried this method, since i dun wish to take the risk of pollution the tank water if the bleach isnt remove properly

It'll work with moss. Riccia might melt. Dun overdo. Soak only long enough to get the algae dead. But then again, Riccia usually out-grow algae.
Rinse very very well before putting them back to tank.
Dun use bleach with soap/ lemon scent, etc. Use only plain bleach (e.g. Clorox).

Having said that, you should also know that the algae is likely to return if the tank conditions that promote it to grow in the first place does not change.

Will it help to soak it in a container of water with some anti-chlorine for a few minutes before putting in the tank?

not to forget to take out all fishes b4 adding the bleach. its 10 times worse than chlorine.

Errr... CT, cannot add bleach to tank lah!!! Remove from tank and bleach.

You add bleach to tank, the bleach will stay in the substrate, porous rocks, etc. Might as well start new tank.

For algae and stuff, chemicals should not be the way to go about tackling them. Yes it's easier this way but I wouldn't recommend it.

A better way, would be understanding the problem, finding the root cause and act on it by means of nutrient control. I guess this is the true challenge that all aquarist should take up. Do not always go for the easy way out.

lol. i did read it somewhere from another site dat this guy bleached his tank.
