Noticed some of my pieces carried swollen bellies as compared to smaller and more colorful presumably male ones.
Interested in finding out if anyone has bred them successfully? The last i heard puffer was trying to do it but its been quite sometime since i heard anything. Anyone care to share their experience?

I tried but failed. I had a group of 8, a good mix of both genders. Had fed them mainly dried food and pellets with occasion live and decap bbs. They seem a shy lot but I did manage a glimpse of a pair's courtship. Plus the males' colouration was great. Unfortunately, after all this while, I didn't see any fries. Perhaps I didn't condition them well enough. Tank specifications: 2 feet low maintenance with lots of java moss, one internal filter and a sponge filter, temp: 25-26 degree c, ph around 6.5. Now the c margaritatus number has dwindled to 3. I have since added 10 more m. erythromicron and 3 puntius titteya. There are also a couple of crs inside the tank. I'm thinking of transferring a pair to another breeding tank.

yes they have been bred, at least in the UK. BTW a new paper has appeared reassigning it to the genus Danio. So depending on your views, the fish that was “Celestichthys margaritatus Roberts, 2007” will now be known as “Danio margaritatus (Roberts, 2007)”.

here is the paper, decide for yourself http://wjchen.actinops.googlepages.c...yetal.2008.pdf
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Sad to hear about your failed attempt.I just set up a spare 1footer and getting prepared to move all 11 of them in. Hope it works out?
