My Riccia lawn starts to float up after growing them for 2 months. They grow very fast and very nice.

Any methods to secure them down on wire mess?

Else, planning to give up riccia and start other plants.

Now then i realise why pple say "Riccia is the 1st plant to start a planted tank, and also the 1st to give up". haa haa

Yah.. riccia is the most attractive plant to have in one's planted tank. I guess everybody would give it a go in some point of time in their planted aquaria hobby. After having enjoying the beaty of lawn riccia, floating riccia will come and somehow discourages ppl from keeping them. To remove won't be an easy task either.

To avoid the riccia from detaching from the netting, trimming is essential. However, I did not take this advise myself. Gave up straight away, cos it was so damn messy. You can try the trimming method. But removing the riccia completely is no walk in the park.
    Cheers!!

I agreed with Sherwin totally. My riccia still grows from place to place despite my utmost effort to clear it. Anyone got a good idea to get rid of this weed?

    Siow liao!

Just started on it. Hoping to grow a lawn of it with a tree in the middle to simulate a tree in the park something like what Chan did last time.

So is trimming the only way to keep them from floating? If so what is the recommended height to trim? Do yu think i can throw sand over it to make them grow roots??[]

Treat it like your hair lor...when you feel its long..give it a good hair cut...army style [] .. And "NO"...no roots from riccia as it is a rootless plant.

Since you guys are toking about about riccia, thought i will hijack this thread and seek all you riccia experts' advice.

Started on growing riccia on wire meshes one week back. But somehow, portions of the riccia has turned brownish. Why hah?

My tank setup are as follows:
    2 ft
    2x36W Light (9 hours)
    CO2 with diffuser @ 1 bps
    Eden 304 filter

Besides riccia, I have hair grass, xmas moss, amazon sword and 3 other planted which I cannot identify. No shrimps/fishes yet.

Need some advice what is wrong and what should be done.

I will gladly take any excess/unwanted riccia off from you guys if you're thinking of disposing.

It seen like you need to inject more CO2 to 2 - 3 bps

Wah, identical setup as mine..same filter, same light..etc.

As for riccia to bloom, make sure there is nothing blocking the light from reaching the riccia and also 1 bbs of co2 would be fine.

You are lucky if the Riccia remains in the floating form. Some of mine seem to have changed to the sinking form (darker looking w/o bubbling). They grow and get entangled all over the plants. So hard to remove even now that I don't have floating Riccia.

I'm using the pebbles to weigh the riccia down. no need to trim, provided if a certain height needs to be maintain.

net the pebbles with riccia and placed it on the dislodged patch.
not to worry, the riccia underneath the pebbles will not turn browish.
if your patch cave in when you placed the riccia, just do a little trimming on the browish part (it's actually the weaken roots)

after two/three weeks, the riccia on the pebbles will grow and will be covered. this will also create a hills scape....

    hope this helps.
