Simon,

How you rear the altum until it is reddish brown in colour ?
Just bought 4 pieces from Gan yesterday. It's juvenile altum. Looks quite light and silvery in colour.

Koon, feed them with different feeds.. daily feeding consist of Flakes, bw, beefheart.. and of coz once in a while, they do take some snacks from my tank

I assume u have them in a planted tank? then jus feed them as per norm and see how they grow to be

What's the criteria for choosing altum ?
I know about discus, but seldom people talk about altum.
Anyway, I asked Mr.Gan to choose for me.

there are many ways, but it oso depend on individual,
here are some things ppl look at:

1)Finnage
2)Body Proporation
3)Straightess of vertical strips (even strips)
4)markings (black spots usually means external parasite)
5)Alertness of fish
6)Fin extension

I usually look for proporation, straight vertical strips (when the altum straighten up, observe the 3rd strip.. usually a good species will have the strip inlined with the dorsal and anal fins)

Wah Lau ! Simon so ! Stringent ! BUT I've to agreed with u lah ! more so if buying adult ! beli x !. Attention should be oso given to the " distinct snout " of the altum.

Simon ! I did a partial water change ( 20 % ) last evening and this morning noticed one of my altum has clamped its fins ! man ! look like " another one bites the dust "

simon ! I did ! but onli for a couple of days, too nice to be kept in Q tank ! well ! it is this thing about altum ! beauty ! but P.I.T.A ! anyway hope the water change stop further damages !
