Phosphate Sorb

Anyone using the above mentioned to prevent algae?

I went to petmart today, and Ben was telling me this product will prevent algae glowing.

Read the instruction, claimed will reduce phosphate in the water to prevent algae glowing. But some bros here mentioned that increase of phoaphate will reduce/control algae glow??

Please advise.

All nutrients (NPK), when in excess will contribute to algae growth. So, reducing those nutrients within the range, which is sufficient for plant but not too much in excess will help reducing algae.

If you get rid of of all P, plants will suffer from malnutrition. So, it's better that you control the level of P (by controlling the fertiliser dosing & fish food) compared to removing excessive P. Anyway, if you need the Phosphate Sorb, I have one for sell .

Thank you so much for your explaination bro. I did dose N,P,K, but in small amount, 1/2 the recommended dosage. Am having hair algae & BBA, if that is the case. I try to further lower down the amount.

The hair algae and BBA will continue to grow and remain there if it is not physically removed. What you want to do is control its growth.

Putting NPK allows the plant to growth strong and outcompete with the algae. And with the help of algae eaters like yamato shrimps, the hair algae is controlled.

So increase or decrease really is an observation and trial and error.

Reducing the dosing may not be the right approach. I would suggest you create a new thread/rename this thread & provide a detailed tank parameters for fellow forumers to lend you their helping hands.

Thanks bros for all the info & advise, I had try to increase the dosage of the N,P,K.

Everything seem under control now, with slowly clear the hair algae manually.
