Used to face the problem years ago when i only had 1 single tank.
Managed to find an alternative over at Ikea. They have a huge range to choose from and most won't burn a hole in you pocket. Though you have to be pretty anal when it comes to materials etc as i bought mine in a hurry,as i only bothered about aesthetics i did not factor in weight, water spillage etc...Eventually my cabinet had to make way after a year + due to moisture build up and my wood rotted. I've even seen ADA "styled" tops that you find in their catalogs, though the one i came across months ago was more suitable for a nano tank! But hey, look around...You never know what you might find there?

But i do agree that you really have to do plenty of "surveys" before you settle on one. Ikea does have better quality ones as opposed to the cheaper chipwood based furniture. Though...they might cost a little more? But hey,it beats your initial quote of 8 blue notes any day!
