DIY fans

Bros, got a question to ask..
I had DIY a fan for my tank. Its one adaptor connect to a PC fan.
If i want to attach two PC fans to one adaptor, is it possible? what is the wiring method? or must i get two adaptor, each for a fan?

the easiest way is to use 2 adaptors.
you can connect 2 fans to a single adaptor but you'll need to be able to differentiate the +ve and -ve wires of the fans as well as the adaptor.
a) combine both red wires from fans together
b) combine both black wires from fans together
c) connect the red wires to the +ve of the adaptor
d) connect the black wires to the -ve of the adaptor
e) you are done

ensure that the adaptor can handle the current required by both fans.

Don't know about you guys, but i used a ac/dc custom made plug -> pc fans, courtesy of sin lin entrep at SL, so using this plug i can dual fix up to 2 fans as explained by the good uncle.

oh, you mean the white color thing?
What about you adaptor? enough voltage to power two fans?

yes you can, provided the adapter can handle the current drawn. Most adapters state the current they support on their label. Do check it out.

I connected 6 DC fans in PARALLEL to one adapter and they worked fine. Fine as in no fire, no overheating, no breakdown.

So for two fans or three fans, normal PC fan, whats the voltage of the adaptor should be?

the adaptor should be 12v. voltages between 7v and 18v will work as well. lower voltage means lower speed and higher voltage means higher speed, noisier and most likely shorter life span.

you need to check the current drawn by the fan. check the label for amperage rating, a 0.xA. for example, it shows 0.15A. then you need 0.45A for 3 fans. find an adaptor with the rating of 12v 0.45a.

ok, thanks!! will go and try it..
Now with one fan my 1.5ft tank temperature can go down to 26 degree, but 27 degree is normal temperature. So hoping with two fan it can go down 1 more degree.

It's better it get an adaptor with amperage higher than what you expect to draw. I.e. if you are going to use 3 0.15A fans, then get something a 6A adaptor. I can't remember exactly why already. I faced a problem that was alleviated by this. Search the forum for DIY fans. You will find lots of cautionary and DIY posts.
