    Hi,
Heard it is quite easy to breed guppies? Is it true? Anyone got any pointers? Experiences to share? Problems? What are the conditions needed?

Also could you take a look at these and tell me if I have a pair of males and a pair of females?

    I think these are males.

    I think these are females.

Females are very much less attractive, not so colourful and normally bigger in size. The also have a black spot on it's belly. Very easy to differentiate.
    Cheers!!

females are BIG. they have little or no colour on their body, only the tail. breeding doesnt require any special requirements at all. just place 3 guppies, 1 male 2 females into a tank, recommended 5g tank and watch them breed. remember to include some java moss or hiding places so the parents wun eat the frys. and always, i stress always, keep 1 male to 2 females.
u'll soon see why. happy breeding. []

Understand that friends come and go,
but with a precious few you can hold on.

I usually place a pregnant female in an isolation tank for her to give birth peacefully, with fry-saving 'equipment', e.g. java moss or basket or raffia bundles...
Due to my laziness at times, I just placed the mum-to-be in an empty tank and so far, cannibalism occurs in a very few instances...
This is to prevent the mother from cannibalizing her fries. Although not all guppies will cannibalize their fries, but preventive measures need to be in place. However, if there is sufficient space and hiding places, the parents need not be removed.

For feeding fries, there are commercial fry foods available. In addition, you can feed baby brine shrimp, frozen daphnia, crushed pellets or flake, etc...

I had raised broods of 40 or more fries in 1-ft plastic tanks with no aeration for a month and I put my breeders in such tanks without aeration. But it all depends, some of my fishes still need aeration to behave normally. So it is a trial and error process.
