Set this up a few weeks ago on my desk at work. It's a 7 inch cube. The resident's name is Groucho.

you may have exaggerate the layout of the tank over here. But it depends on whether your point of focus is on the beta or the tank. In the photo shown, the first thing that my eyes capture is the tank and not the beta. There's still room for improvement though for layout of the tank if your focus is the tank.

The tank is only a few weeks old... The plants haven't completely grown in yet -- also have more plants to add. The focus is creating an environment the Betta will be happy with, not a work of art... In that respect, the venture is successful as the fish is in peak condition and very active. Some of the visual appeal aspects still need work, I agree. But I think it'll be a waiting game since those plants don't grow very quickly

Thank you for your input! Appreciate it....

i think your betta will prefer dark colored substrate, and lesser floating plants. introducing some "darkwater essence" will do it good.

Thanks for the input.... The Betta is doing just fine -- happily building bubble nests, etc. Likes to hunt among the floating plants, too. The floating plants aren't there for aesthetics either, they are necessary for taking out excess nutrients -- the Anubias grows far too slowly to be effective in nutrient control -- and keeping the Betta from jumping out. I'm not looking to put money into this tank -- it's completely low tech. The river gravel is liked by everyone, too. If I put darker substrate, the Betta would be virtually invisible given his colors, which would defeat the purpose of him being in the tank.

I get why you suggest what you suggest -- it's your preference However, it isn't mine... I don't want a "dark" tank.
