I just read this thanks to links from other posting.

    Thks Vinz for the info.

Vinz and all : Just to be really sure here before trying ... I had thought all along artificial fertilizer for terresterial plants are not suitable for water plants as they may contain harmful subtances for eg. high level of ammonia compound which may be harmful to fishes. Am I being phobia and wrong here ?

    Thks.

Yes, most of them contains urea(similar to NH3). This is poisonous to fishes. Therefore, make sure you push it deep into your substrate and don't disturb it. It may not kill the fish but you may have algae problem.

My Red lotus was transplanted from my old tank to my new 4ft tank. It was rather slow growing (or no growth) and lifeless so I put in 2 Jobbes sticks for household plants... NPK = 13-4-5 which I bought about 1.5 years ago. After 1 week, my lotus started sprouting new leaves and you can see the plant given a boost in life. This is not the first time this happened. Used b4 on my Echins too.... results were rather obvious....

    Juz sharing my experience
    Cheers!!

i get good results from using horti sticks and tabs. lotus, crypto and echino benefits and teh results are quite dramatic. tiger lotus leaves can grow bigger than outstretched hand.

Sherchoo, Tawauboy, that's probably because you've already met the basic fert requirements in your tank. Most likely the P from the Jobes/Horti gave them the boost.

JHSeah, you're lotus is probably not getting enough of the other ferts. Try sticking a aquatic plant root fert in next to the lotus.

I already have JBL base fertilizer at the base, dosing after each water change JBL ferropol.

What else should I get to get my red lotus up again?

Hmmm... how old is your base fert? Try sticking in a Root Monster.

Seems like qianhu stopped bringing root monster.
Even their favorite shop like C328 and petmart don't have stock of root monster any more.

What's available on the shelves, should you find it are all from the old shipment and dusty. Wonder if there's an expiry on them...

Anyone care to comment on this or knows where root monster is still available?

Should still be ok, but stick a few root fertilisers in anyway.

N, P or K may not be what it's lacking or not the only elements it's lacking. Jobe's are not magic bullets... they only fix N, P and K deficiency problems.
