yamato shrimps..

hihi...
bought 4 yamatos at c328...
wat do they eat??
cos i putting them inside a non planted tank
alongside my small cichlid...

saw c328 feeding them pellets think so...
do they eat those???

It really depends...some of them eat algae and nothing else (Vinz say his yamatoes don't eat fish food?) Mine eat sinking tablets that were meant for corys. Actually I think they eat whatever food that falls to the gravel. What cichlids are you keeping? Are they those aggressive types?

yamatoes eat algae mostly.
but mine does eat food pellets.
if you tank has no algae, you can feed wit algae wafers.
the yamatoes will be your cichlid's food when the cichlid grows bigger.

When did I say my yamatos don't eat fish food? Mine even eats frozen bloodworms.

yamatoes mainly feeds on green algae, algae wafers or tablets, frozen bloodworms as well....is yours a total empty tank....if it is you may want to consider a small piece of wood for them to cling on to

i agree with david. If you buy shrimps from higher end LFS like Pet safari, you will notice they include some java moss in the bag. These are for the shrimps to cling on and reduce stress from transportation. Likewise for your tank, without a hiding place or somewhere to cling, they will be rather stressed.

I think it will be good if you have a piece of rock or driftwood wrapped with some soft moss. You will see your shrimps having good times there.

my cichlid is Pseudotropheus zebra albino morph
not so aggressive yetlah...hehe
okok will feed bw see how...
so far the cichild only go disturb the shrimps cos
the shrimps also smaller by the cichlid a bit only...
anyway the setup is sand and coral chips...internal filter
so far ok..will maintain...

] ..Anyway vintageo2..I think you need to measure your pH as you have add coral chips..Too high a pH and your yamatoes won't make it.

hmmm...i only got less then a layer of coral chip in the 1 feet tank so
shouldnt be a problem in terms of ph...
so far so good...will post pictures soon when i got camera..hehe
shrimps are so cute..hahaha...

wrap with soft moss?? not sure bout this part...
saw driftwood but dont suit my tank setup..hehe
wanna get a coral rock but not sure where...and price..

I think when u wrap the rock up with moss and let it grow for sometime, you won't see much of it except the moss.

Anyway, just to share my experience with moss and shrimps. I bought about $30 worth of christmas from chan abt 3mths ago. They are really dirty though

. I tied them to several pieces of drift woods and rock and they didn't grew at all. Heard that moss grows very little by months. Anyway, added yamatos and malayan and magic happened. Don't understand why, but the moss are cleared of those dirt and started growing. Growth is noticably fast! The few dirt-clumped Blyxa japonica are also cleaned in a matter of 2 days and showing off bright green leaves.

I have some wood, bee, yamato and malayan shrimps in my 3ft tetras tank.

there are ppl around with experience of having moss thriving in CO2less tank. But with co2 (and good light), i believe you can get them real green and with faster growth. A good place to see a lot of these moss is GenX. So far, this is the only LFS (exclude FF) i came across that are really into moss growing. Maybe you can ask the boss there for some tips.
