sorry to hear about your loss. i guess your apisto was yet another victim of internal parasites.

besides dry food, i do feed my apistos with bbs, adult brine shrimps, once in a blue blue blue moon tubiflex worms, and also frozen bloodworms. but i wash them super lots of time though. my 50 cents of tubi always end up become 20 cents worth after washing, and i will only get them from one place which i trust. even for frozen bloodworms, i will rinse and wash them and only select the cleaner looking ones. same for adult brine shrimps.

with so much extra work needed, you can deduce that i only feed live food when i have more time to spare. as such, i'll still recommend flakes and pellets as staple.

if you ever need ketapang leaves in the future, i can pass you some too. cheers!

just a note, i don't think washing your tubifex/bloodworms helps with internal bacteria problems. unless you wash with boiling water (cooked worms!), the bacteria isn't going to be washed away and your fish will still get infected if there was bacteria in the first place

illumnae, i agree with you, hence i just do what i can to minimise the possibility of feeding my fishes with parasites. which is why getting from reliable sources is important. but me being kiasu, that's my personal habit. works well for me so far, and gets rid of external impurities, but a lot of wastage. no choice, some fishes just cant do without occassional treats, and some owners just cant do without spoiling their pets once in a while.

I feed mine with live adult brine shrimp occasionally for a treat. Or else, its the bbs that i culture myself.

Anyway, none of my apistos like tetrabits..... thats why I've got no choice but to feed them frozen bloodworms.

One way to get your Apistogrammas to take tetrabits is to mix in tetrabits with their favourite food. For example, I mash up the water-softened Tetrabits with a plastic spoon and feed it together with Tetrabits.
You can gradually get them to take Tetrabits. I managed to "convert" A. agassizii fries as well as wild A. inkas using this method. Hope it helps.

yup same for my apistos. didn't bother about the tetrabits which i fed them with initially, but strangely, after introducing them into my comm tank, they simply started to feed on them.
