cause when i enquired about some plants ...some were not for sale while the rest were very expensive ( e.g US fissiden on mesh 5cm * 5 cm) @ $20! i don't know about the market rate but that price really shocked me .

I have no comment on this, if it is beyond your budget, you can always look for alternative sources which I mentioned in my earlier post.
I think some of the rare plants that are on display at Bioplast belongs to their customers and are for display only.

I also find the prices very expensive but the quality is much superior than commonly available at other LFS. However, if you do not want to spend so much, just get else where cheaper. Anyway, their service is good.
In Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, I have seen single aquatic plant specimens commanding prices up to S$500.
Do take note:
1. Different species will command different prices.
2. Different quality will also command different prices
Be familiar with your plants so that you know what you are paying for. Play with plants within your price range and your expertise level. Very expensive plants are usually hard to keep alive, hence the premium pricing.

As benny said, prices of rare, new, uncommon and high quality species of plants are not cheap anywhere out of Singapore.
A single stem plant measuring 8cm can easily set you off by $25. This is for a not so rare one. A eriocaulon species that is newer to the players is also easily $200-$400 / pc. Some echinodorus can cost up to $2000 / small little tiny rhziome. Ask gchoo.
My first 5cm stem of rotala sp (pearl) (Dao Hui) cost me $50 2 years back.
My first 5 plants of japanese dwarf hairgrass was like $10 - $15 / plant. Yes, each plant has about 4 leaves. Also countless of tonina species which cost from $10-$25 / stalk of < 8cm.

Ai yo, even common plants can sell very high if the quality is good. Bioplast target customers are those richer people that have no time to search for lobangs, that's the reason for the price. I asked before their spiky moss, and price is 3x the usual

In my opinion, I do not think it is right to question System and Control Engineering business model. I believe they cater to a different segment of this market. Most importantly, you must know what is your budget for this hobby and enjoy it!
Actually we are spoilt for choices where aquatic plants are concerned, knowing that many other countries place severe restriction on their import due to environmental / ecological issues.
I agree with wks.
In US, I was looking at a small pot of Echinodorus tenellus for US$5. To create a lawn of 3 ft will be quite an investment.

It is not just the forums that spoil market pricing.
For fishes as well. Because Singapore is one of the main import/export hub. Some shops in Singapore are in the import/export business as well. So when they bring in fishes, they bring in by the hundreds of each species, so allowing them to reduce the price to very low values.
Hobbyists in singapore will definitely rejoice, because cheap mah. In the end, other shops seeing that they wouldn't benefit from bringing in the same fish as those shops, stop their buying. So only those import/export LFS win, the rest of the shop suffers. And it becomes a vicious cycle. Prices for those fishes are stuck at those low levels.
It is also another reason why this forum discourages open price discussions. It doesn't help the industry. It only damages the industry.
Being Singaporean, we are pretty spolit and always wants the cheapest and compare prices (ME TOO!) so, naturally will be surprised to see one LFS selling plants at much higher prices. Maybe will also think they are trying to "EAT" you
Anyway, bioplast is a good shop with superior quality plants and good service attitudes. It's worth slightly the higher price tags in my opinion. Just look at their willow mosses (BIG FAT JUICY). They had a 2ft ALL fissiden moss tank at one corner with a simple moss hill only and looks much much better than alot of our tanks here (Saw a few high grade CRS as well) Wonder who actually bought it, much be very happy and rich!
