    Hi,

    I just got an external filter cannister JET-3358 given free by someone.

    It's has 2 trays and a sponge. And i bought 500gm of ceramic rings and 500gm of anti-ammonia rocks. May i know should i put the ceramic rings on top layer and anti-ammonia rocks bottom layers? how about the sponge?

    Thanks for the advise.

    IMHO... the idea of filter media is to house beneficial bacteria that conver amonia to less toxi form, nitrate. Not sure how the anti-amonia work but the name suggest that it will nullify amonia. If that the case then beneficial bacteria will not be able to colonize the ceramic ring, not enough food in the first place. I would suggest to take out those anti-amonia rock, with enough cycle time, amonia should be 0.

    As for the media arrangement, depending on where the water comming in, my arrangement would be:
    water in -> filter wool/sponge -> ceramic ring/biohome/etc -> water out

    Mine canister filter media placement is; Started from input >>> “AZOO” Ceramic Bio-Ring >>> “Eheim” Substrate Pro >>> “JBL” Sponge >>> filter wool >>> output.
