    hi all,

i am planning to set up a simple 2ft tank, with low maint plants...

basically, planning to use moss (please recommend) as foreground....wood as center piece...and some grass (please recommend) to grow around the wood.

please advise what is the most suitable plant for such a setup?

how many watt of lighting i need...must on how many hours?

special tips on how to "carpet" the ground quickly and evently?

    Thank all!

you need a low temperature of about 26 degrees to grow plants well. my java moss managed to survive in my tank at temperature in excess of 30 degrees. the moss will turn dark. but once you have CO2 and light, new shoots will come out.

Wow! It's great to know that Java Moss can withstand 30ºC

yes.. its super hardy. there was a period when i had a algae bloom and i had no choice but to initiate a blackout for an entire week. the algae died, but not my java moss..java moss are very happy when they have lots of CO2 even when theres little light. it was in my tank without lights for 2+months. until recently i bought a 36WPL.

java moss is one of the most hardy moss.
I've had a batch dried up, and yet when I leave it in water, some how tiny leave starts appearing again.

For center piece, you can try us fissden or flame moss but ,from what i notice sewing thread is the worst to tie when tiying the moss. This is because the moss would be easily plague by hair algae.

Moss: x'mass moss (slow grow) or spiky moss (fast grow), these two is one of my favorite
    Grass: normal hair grass?

    8 hours 24 to 36Watts

To make any planat grow fast, you need high light, high CO2 and high fert. In other word if you plan to have low tech tank than everything will grow slow
