My experience only with ADA Special Lights and Tropica plant nutrients+. I think SeaChem Flourish also has NPK together.
My experience only with ADA Special Lights and Tropica plant nutrients+. I think SeaChem Flourish also has NPK together.
Other commonly used (and cost effective) brands locally include Lushgrow Aqua and Wondergro Macro+. These 2 products also include other required macro nutrients besides NPK and the brands also carry a separate product for micro nutrients
so if i am already doing seachem flouris comprehensive, I will still need the Lushgrow aqua?
If you have covered the NPK, it's time to look at the micros.
Good light & stable CO2, macro & micro is all you need for healthy plant growth. Sounds simple but already challenging enough for me.

i dose 1ml of flourish for my 1ft cube tank 2 times a wk. 1 bubble per 3 second. 2 x 13w light. Plants are some moses riccia and nanas. Need to dose npk?
You are the best person to answer the question. If your plants are growing well, you are doing ok with the fertilization. Do not try fix it if it is not broken.
Just bought wondergro macro+ from Ben....will start doing and update on the results.

There is also a Nutrafin product called "Plant Gro - NPK" (0.6-0.3-2.4). Bought at LFS across from Tiong Bahru wetmarket
Wonder-Gro Macro+ contains all N-P-K as well as other various components such as S, Cl, Mg, etc.
It is approximately 5-0.6-15 worth in NPK value alone.
However it lacks in sufficient micro elements and Fe for average planted tank. For that you will also need to dose trace+fe product. One product from the same line is the W-G Micro+. Others are, but not limited to seachem, JBL, Tropica, etc.
Hi Medicineman,
With the NPK ratio of 5-0.6-15. If my tank is 40g (150 liters) and current nitrate and po4 is 0ppm (after 100% water change). How much must i does to achieve 10ppm for N and 1.2ppm for po4?
In theory, 14-15 pumps would be necessary to reach such desired PPM.
However it is advisable to dose as recommended on the label.
In your case, based on general observation is 2 pumps given every day or 3-4 pumps given every other day (and it adds up 14 pumps in a week). You can consider to give double the dose on initial dosing or after a good water change.
Gradual, light but frequent dosing is generally better. Nutrient concentration is better regulated and less concentration spike as the result (more stable condition), never too flat out and never too high.
In essence one need to adjust dosing as necessary. Aiming for 10ppm is OK and it is more to those EI dosing guarantee : a bit more and never less. Even though, dosing as I suggest also ensure there will never be severe lack of nutrient. Sometimes it can also helps to keep algae at bay.
so if i dose wondergro macro and micro, i would not need to add dry ferts like KNO3 and PO4?
Cheers,
Melvin Lim
Usually you wont need to dose any additional dry fert anymore as the fertilizer supplies wide array of nutrient in sufficient concentration.
It is highly advisable to use in combination with wondergro root+ or similar quality base fertilizer.
Here is an example of personal result
That's alot to dose for people who want to dose EI. EI doses are ~10ppm nitrate and ~1-2ppm phosphate each dose for 3 times a week. So the 150 litre tank would require 45 pumps (90ml) per week...a 4x2x2 tank would require almost 270ml a week. I guess that's why I've been having a hard time following the recommended dosage =\ I wish the government would loosen up on KNO3
