Recently I rescape and planted some HG and HC. It has been a week and some white fuzzy, cotton like thing appear on my HG. Anyone has encountered similar stuff before? I am getting worried it is algae but I had searched online and neither database show algea of such. The appearance is just like substance accumulate on CO2 diffuser when DIY CO2 is used.

p.s sorry I cant post any pic because my office do not allow camera of camera phones.

try to use a pincer to remove it and then you can see clearly what it is.. likely to be hair algae...

Had that before. Provide some water circulation to the bed of your tank and it'll clear on its own.

    that things like white cotton?
if like white cotton may be is a bacterial colony, using DIY co2 causing bactrial colony, and white cotton form is bacterial colony in macro size. your DIY co2 did't run well

Is it mostly at the tips or all over the HG?
I usually get short stubby BBA growing mostly at the tips.
Do you have any algae eaters like SAE in the tank to help?

I was told by Ryan (Keng Sheong) that its a kind of bacteria because of too much nutrients. It is okie to leave it alone.

Anyway I tried to remove it manually, as careful as I can be I still uproot my HG

Hi all..I'm not sure, but it seems like I have the same problem as well. I have attached some pictures, but I used a handphone camera, so it did not turn out very clear.

Been removing them manually, but it breaks up quite easily, like jelly. Also, that mostly settle on the gravel surface, although some do get caught on my java moss.

At first I thought it was because I used green water removal solution, then turned into jelly because it did not mix well with the water.

My tank is a 4 feet x 1.5 feet x 1.5 feet, running on nutrafin's DIY CO2, 2 flourescent tubes (40W). I used ordinary black quartz gravel, with tetra intial sticks.

What can I do about it ??
