just go ahead and separate if i were you. don't think they are so easily dead.. i guess you will need a sharp knife to cut the plantlets out.. or just simply plug them out.. good luck!
Hi all, hopefully all the professional bro can advice me on whether to split or not to split this plant yet. Its currently around 10 cm tall and 8 cm leaf to leaf. if want to split, each platelet i think should be around the size too. each platelet currently have around 8-12 leaf.
I am thinking of splitting the platelets now, but i am scare to kill the plant if i did not perform the "operation" properly or perform it when the plant is still too young.
Please advice me. thanks

bro i dont think its so easy, when you are splitting plants you got to make sure that the platelets are able to survive and that they have enough roots to survive on their own. not see split then can cut out already.
You dun have to use a knife. You can use your hands to slowly pry open the plants at the plant base near the roots. Do that very slowly so that you can keep all the roots intact. It's that easy... But you have to be sure that each plant is strong enough to survive on its own.... Enjoy....
Sorry forgot to add that you can actually use a knife to but a single plant into 2 if you're desperate to propagate it... but that really is tricky *wink*
just seperated the whole bunch. 1 plant into 7 smaller platelets. from what i can see, 2 is without roots, the other 5 is with roots. so i would be expecting at least 4 casualty from my first experience seperating this plant. hopefully i would have at least 1 healthy plant left for me at the end of the day due to my clumsy hands. Will update in a weeks time on the status of the splitted plants.
by the way, the species that i am trying to propogate is eriocaulon giaos (taco).
TACO is an easy species to separate...If your water parameter is good those without roots can also survive.
woah thanks for the advice. Hopefully all will survive this seperation.
seems like my baby gioas is surviving with or without roots. their bubbling in my tank right now, i know that althought bubbling does not necessary means survival, but at least its telling me that their photosynthesizing. finger cross i dont see any platelets turning yellow in the next 2 weeks.
i guess as long as there is no melting occoring, they should be doing fine.
finger cross i dont spot any melting for the next few days.
I recommend that you do very little change in water... good luck!!
OKay, point noted thanks.
mini taco looks almost alike like the gioas, but just the mini form..
You're most welcome! I'm sorry I cannot post any pics of tha TACO. It has been about 4 to 5 years back since I played with it so cannot take any pics of it anymore... but think Midori or Green Chapter should have it.
Rgds,
