I believe there is a plastic perforated plate between the prefilter and the motor. This provide sufficient space for the shrimplets to swim around.
I found a adult-size cherry barb in my 2080's prefilter tray when I took it for cleaning.![]()
Hi all, I just bought a pro3e 2078 to replace my 2028 for 4ft tank. I have a question since the prefilter is now at the top and water goes through it before flowing downwards, will the shrimplets and small fishes (e.g. briggitae) be sucked via the inlet and trapped in the prefilter tray underneath the blue sponge? I'm worried that these might cause clogging if this happens since the space between the blue sponge and tray should be quite small. Anyone has experienced this situation? In my previous 2028, I often find shrimplets and small fishes (briggitae etc in the filter bottom when cleaning.

Plastic perforated plate? You meant the tray used to hold the blue sponge? Below is a green plastic plate before the cotton wool. I suppose you do not mean this since water goes through it the last before the motor... any debris should be caught by the prefilter before going to the hole at the corner to the lowest level. Unless there is some water that slips into the corner hole before passing through the prefilter..
Oops, made a mistake here. The green perforated plate I'm refering to is placed above the wool and it is not between the prefilter tray and the motor.Keeps thinking the setup would be the same as eheim 2028 or equivalent.
But anyway, if I can find a cherry barb in the perfilter so it would be ok for the shrimps.
ok, ic. Will check my prefilter to see if any shrimps or fishes stuck there soon, at least easier than to go to the bottom to find now![]()
You can use a green mesh to tie it round the inlet tube or use a sponge to put over the inlet tube, than you won't need to worry about shrimps getting into the filter.
Admiring my Fishes calm the Beast within me
tried before but soon after it caught enough debris to slow down the flow rate.
