By the way, when you mean old substract, is it reused substract after awhile or immediately transferred with exisiting old tank water together with it ? Cause you mentioned rescape.

Oh, in that case, once your rescape. Its considered a new tank as you may have reset the biofilters, its been cycling for a month i presume?? Have you used any water conditioners like nutrafin cycle or sechem stablity to speed up cultivating the nutrifying bacterias ?

My intend is to cycle my tank by not using any liquid BB . Not that I am stubborn, I want to try out things. Anyway, thats not the point. My tank has 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrite and I have yet to get a NO3 tester. My plants are now browning which shows nutrients deficiency, however algae still boom.

    Hi,

You filteration is too new. not enough good bb. When i first started out, I was anxious to get the plant and fishes in. As my filteration is not mature, i faces a lot of issues( algae and fishes dying).

I suggust that you take it slow and get the fundamental right. And also, go and get a test kit.

No.. you do not need chiller to grow hair grass.

For HC, you will need high light. I am on a 2x1x1.5 tank with 72w light for eight hours. No problem growing HC not hair grass.

When i first started out, and fauna and plants started dying because I didnt cycle my tank, my reading on ammonia and nitrite was also 0ppm.

So, as long as you don't follow through this process, its just not going to work. I had to learnt it the hard way, you dont need to.

I learnt it too. Though I did not even dump any faunas in then, algae still grow. But besides that point. I believe in using bb, though it might speed up the cycling process, I still let it cycle longer.

Now my tank is crystal clear! But still figuring how can I let my HG grow faster. My HG used to pearl, now they dont so I think nutrients might be insufficient.

wah, you hairgrass can pearl? I thought the leaves have too little surface area to do that . Fauna and algae are not related, but any imbalances in your tank will cause an algae bloom.

Look at the CO2. Do not trust test kits too much but rather watch the plants.

I have a drop checker for CO2, colour indicate CO2 within 30ppm. My HG though are growing but not as fast as many said once the HG gets rooted.

    Alechim,

Do you any HG planted near the edge of the tank, if so, you can watch if there are runners.

There are .runners do grow, anyway they are better now after I switch to dosing just ADA step2 and brighty K. The plants are greener and less dead HG

yup, brighty K is potassium and step2 consist of micros + iron formula for plant growth.

It is simpler to dose, dont have to bother about calculating how much of each nutrients is there. I had faced the truth, I am lazy
