Hi
The size of the tank is min requirement to keep a pair of apistos. As long you give them enough hiding places from each other, there wont be any problem.
Any ADA substrate are suitable.![]()

2) put more plants to block each other

plants, rocks, flowerpots, wood...anything to break line of sight
your 1ft cube with amazonia2 is definitely good enough for a pair of apistos. in fact, today i just collected my pair of wild Ap. agassizii 'Tefe' to place in my newly set up 1ft cube with gex powder soil =)
looks like i'll have to add more java fern on dw. They grow fast. Just curious, if there's so many hiding place, how they breed?
don't worry about their breedingthey'll find a suitable spot once they're ready to breed. in fact, hiding places are good for breeding as the female will usually find a spot that she feels secure in to lay her eggs
