I am thinking of getting a 4' tank with top hood and and internal overflow system. The overflow from inside the tank will flow below the tank into the cabinet into a 3 to 4 compartment sump. From here it is pump back into the tank.
Thinking of getting this for a new planted tank but not sure whether this type of systemis suitable or not. I believe that this is a common design for a LH tank.

sump or overflow filters r said to have high CO2 lost rate. perharps u can pack more filter floss to cushion and minimize too much disturbance cause by the filter
I am not sure. I heard that they have high CO2 loss rate too.
Disturbance should be minimised as there is a rainbar to distribute the inlet water flow. Outflow from the tank is only through the overflow.
the lost of Co2 is from the inlet fall,
which is the cause of water disturbance.
Resistance is futile, you will be administrated!
Other then CO2 loss, there is substrate considerations...
I think this set up is more convenient for bare-bottom tanks. For a planted tank, you have to put in a pipe to raise the outlet above the substrate, plus being careful not to push substrate into it during tank maintainance.
I find these tanks inconvenient and in-practical.
