Rotala macrandra not a easy plant to grow, at least for me.

I have 33W (3 x 11W) PL right now. I was told that the plant is probably lack of Potassium. I didn't dose any nutrients while I was away for 12 days, probably that's the reason.

oh, then you need to condition the plants back to good health by dosing.
    then do a trimming.

Common problem with red plants. One way is to have something in front of it so that only the nice red top of the plants can be seen from the front.

ADA biotope has a full range of lily pipes, should be around 180-220 for them, just make sure you have the right tubing sizes.

Blueboy, perhaps you want to start a new thread to discuss pricing. You can check Japanese pricing too, you will definitely save more on shipping. But again, this is a TANK THREAD. Let's not deviate too much from it

And welcome to AQ!!! (Your 1st post)

Time for an update. Full tank shot taken today.

I didn't realize a fallen branch can look so natural

Traces of algae all over the place

But at least the plants are still surviving... didn't know HG can form such large oxygen bubble

It's a good thing that my Rotala macrandra 'Narrow' is showing sign of recovery.

    Nice Jervis

I think something needs to go on the Left, infront of the Rotala Macranda (?)

Perhaps some Didiplis Diandra could do the job? Up to you

Im having some trouble with Fuzz algae too Not sure how to get rid of it

Trim the hairgrass to get rid of the algae and add a tad bit more CO2 from what you are adding now and watch closely. You need to remove the algae in there first and correct conditions to ensure it does not come back again (Do not think your algae eating critters can help you remove all the algae because at high light, things grow fast beyond the pace they eat unless you go low light). High light with poor control of CO2 and nutrients is a recipe for algae.

    Jervis,

You have cleared my understanding on HG being able to bubble dispite having very slim surface area. It looks good. But at close up, i am still seeing a fair amount of hair algae on them.

Btw, i have noticed you have 2 co2 indicator in your tanks ? 1x ada, the other is boyu ?

That is a dennerle long term CO2 test kit aka dropchecker.

    Peters.
thanks for the clarification, so 2 dropchecker better than 1 ?? or its because its long term, so more viable than the existing ada's ?

I still prefer the ADA dropchecker but I added a white background to it to make reading of the colour easier. You will need the 4 or 5dKH standard as per normal + bromo blue reagent to make out the amount of CO2 via pH/KH table. The other thing is to make sure you have good current throughout the tank so as to prevent localized spots from getting too high/low as you add more or less CO2.

Argh...the Rotala macrandra 'Narrow' looks fabulous!
The redness just makes it complete. I could never get mine to look so vibrant, except the algae part which is kinda discouraging for your case...Everything worked out fine i guess? Was this the look you had in mind when you started this tank?

Thanks Peter for the clarification... yes that's a Dennerle.

    Japan vs. Germany

Actually I am testing the ADA Drop Checker now. Finding 4dkH water for the ADA Drop Checker is a bit troublesome, so I am trying the Dennerle solution inside the ADA glass. For Dennerle, it's straight-forward, no need to add anything... but a bit costly After running the 2 units side by side for 3 days... I think it can be done

Guess I am just being lucky here... yes algae are real turn-offs But it is getting better as I am learning how to control nutrients.

Emm... nope. The tank has evolved beyond anything I've imagined in the first place. But again, I am still experimenting with so many things. So, evolution is not at all bad.

    Latest update.

Trimmed the Rotala macrandra 'Narrow' and planted them more densely than before. My tank seriously need more nutrient exporters

Bought 3 pots of plants during lunch today.

For the first time ever... I introduced a school of fish!!! 10 specimens of White Clouds

Still looking a bit faded while settling down. Immediately started eating pellets. ADA Gold AP-2
