Hi illumnae, i agree that its a beautiful male.
I love the tail-end of the dorsal, very well-formed caudal and those electric blue cheeks!

Only thing if you don't mind me saying, I am not sure if its a A. agassizii 'Tefe'.
Able to get a shot of the fish flaring with the zig-zags on its flanks?
It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!

haven't been able to get such a shot yet...the pair bred not long after being introduced into their new home, so for the first week they were still getting used to the environment and after that i didn't want to spook the female. i'll try and get some shots it, though i don't remember seeing any zigzags on the flank when i see it flare...be warned though, i think it's common knowledge now that my phototaking skills suck, so more likely than not i will not be able to get a shot

i do have my suspicions about it being a "Tefe" as well due to the tail colour and the lack of zigzags, but regardless of its locality, it's a beautiful wild caught specimen and i'm very happy with it, the name or locality doesn't matter so much to me in fact, maybe it's good that i got a "rare" wild specimen as opposed to normal Tefes?

i have a dilemma i just noticed some white spots on the fins of my male and female apistos...no other fish in the tank have the spots. however, as there are fry currently in the tank (1 week old), i don't think it's safe to commence white spot treatment, especially since i'm not 100% it's white spot...what should i do? wait and observe and risk the parents dying, go ahead with treatment and risk the fry dying or remove the fry and go ahead with treatment and risk the fry dying as well?

also, what's an effective white spot treatment?

    how about using a heater?
the apistos should be comfortable with a higher temp and it may help with the white spot
its less invasive than adding something into the tank

erhmm i don;t think so la! max is like 28-30 degs? you can control the setting ma
should be able to find a small one to fit the small tank
but maybe should ask around some more as i am not familiar with heaters
doubt much planted tank hobbyists in singapore will be!

other than that the other things i can think of all include adding something to the tank - i.e. salt, medication

My suggestion. Remove the fries, proceed with medication and treatment.

If the frys can't survive, you still have the parent fish to try another round. Better treat the parent fish fast, I hate to see such beautiful fish perish.
