Looking nice. How come your substrate looks sandy now? You added sand?

i was scouting around deciding whether to fly to japan, taiwan or hongkong to stock up my upcoming (but postponed) apisto rack and i came across this:

    http://www.rva.jp/apisto/22381-20051223.htm

seems like my agassizii isn't a 'tefe' but a Ap. agassizii 'Kameta' instead?

the orange dorsal streak, yellow head streak, face markings and body colouration look very similar to me. the electric blue tail colouration is somewhat similar too. i do agree with you that the golden dorsal sheen and exact tail patterns differ slightly though.

i'm just very puzzled as to what exactly is the locality of my agassizii and it seems to most resemble the "Kameta".

on a side note, except for the golden dorsal sheen, i do unabashedly think that mine's more of a beauty than the one in the link better blue face markings, stronger yellow head, more blue body sheen, longer dorsal and longer tail with nicer markings i just wish mine had the golden dorsal sheen too!

Imho,I think it looks like neither. The tail markings of your agassizii are quite different from both. Meanwhile I have totally no idea which locality or variant yours belong to.

guess it's just me then i was looking at the charactaristics besides the tail marking which seem almost identical to me, and the tail colouration (which looks uncommon for agassiziis) also looks similar. so other than the markings on the tail, i thought they look similar.

oh well, maybe one of the parents of my fish got lost and swam to the wrong river locality to breed with a "local" and produce the oddly marked fish i got

Why not take a shot of the daddy flaring? The colors/patterns will be a lot clearer that way.

For example, my male's purplish markings (on the caudal and back of dorsal) only become obvious when he flares. Other times, it looks dull brown.

    yixiang,
net them out or use a bigger tube. but net is safer now that they are bigger.
    looks like busy times ahead.

richard, already busy at work net is hard because it's a scaped tank with plants, wood and rocks. bigger tube is also hard for the same reasons haha...i'll try to net them out bit by bit later tonight. i'll probably bring this tank to the office once my next spawn hatches/gets eaten. clearing my stuff in preparation for moving house...gonna take a temporary break from apistos at home till my rack is set up

Just curious, but can you identify the gender of the fries at the tender age of 1 month old?
