Presently I'm using Arcadia FL tube costing about $37 per tube.Find it quite costly as I change my both tubes every 8mths.Saw some new make in Taiwan FL tube like Azoo and some other brands that claim it's good for planting. The price range is between $16 to $22.wonder if they are just as good compared to the relatively expensive ones.did anyone use them and find them just as effective.Think it will really save me alot of $$$ if i can change to the cheaper range of FL tube. Can someone pls enlighten me.... thanx.

I'm not sure with FL but i get PL tubes cheaper then FL tubes. Higher wattage ,deeper penetration.
    Cheers!

Heat emits for PL is hotter then FL which is relatively cooler, get Ac or Dc fan to cool down your tank. Maybe you can consider changing from FL to PL and invest on one or two fan to cool it down. Change the ballast to e.ballast as it runs coolers too.
    Cheers!

Are the light tubes 4ft? You can try bioplast tubes, range around 20+. If you want to save, then you can use the National Cool Daylight 32W 4ft FL tube at $7, can buy at NTUC. If you can find Philips Daylight tube, they cost about $2.80 only.

I am using both the National and Philips tubes and my plants bubble as usual. Maybe you just need to change the tube more frequent, say every 6 months.

3.5 ft tubes... wow.. those are pretty rare... don't think you can get these tubes on the market. Probably you have to go back to specilaised aquarium tubes.
    Cheers!!

IF the endcap for the 3.5' tube is the same as the regular household FL tubes, you can consider DIY. Loosen the endcaps and use additional cables if necessary and get those metal clips to hold the FL tube in place. I converted my 58cm aquarium tube holder to accept 59 cm one. now I can use those Philips Superflo tube that emits more light at $3+ from Carrefour. Hitachi ones are harder to find. Need to go to Kelatan Lane so I read.

Whether FL or PL or brands, the problem with most is they don't last long and efficiency starts to drop after 6 mth. Not seen those long lasting light bulbs with 6 to 10 yr warranty by Osram/Philiips for FL or PL before. Anyway the warranty didn't say anything about efficiency over time. It is hard to tell the drop in light output with your naked eyes. But you see the diff when you change to new ones. You can't wait until they flicker like in our homes before you change So it makes sense to be able to use low-cost regular tubes for homes made cheap with similar tech thru mass production.

Hi ryan, sorry for not replying earlier.Didn't quite stayed up as late as you.The sunnon I mentioned is 12x12cm and is AC powered.Just plug and play.Didn't know the effect as i bought the ADDA 220-240v,0.12/0.10A at $15.50.It was super, jus one fan my 4ft tank's temp is slightly below 28 degree with all the lights on(2xPL,2xFL).The fan is set to on together with the lights. Now i wonder should I add another fan? Will it cool the water further?Any idea.Well...you enjoy setting up your tank.

ACE!..try running the fan 24/7...and not just when the lights are on. Its more effective that way. temperature is much more constant and sometimes can achieve quite low temperature like 25.5 to 26 when the weather is good. Hope that helps.
