Hi people. I have a new 2ft planted which i already cycled the tank for more than a week. Recently added rams, tetras and pencil fishes into my tank. After around a week plus, i found that most of my rams and tetras actually showed signs of white spots on their body. As most of them are infected, i just treat them inside the tank with Ocean Free white spot solution. Is that advisable?

So why most of the tetras and rams caught the white spots so easily? Is there something to do with the overall nitrate level in tank? Please advise. Thanks alot.
    Zack

Hi bro zack, how's your fishes now? The white spot disappear already??? I personally feel maybe they(fishes) too stress up... Let them slowly get use to the new setup. If not the other thing is that your parents nag too much happens that you stress they also stress... Heheee

I used half the dosage stated on the label for Super Slime, White Spots and Velvet Away (Ocean Free), and after one week, the tank's totally rid of any signs of white spots disease. Just half the dosage and only dosed once. After water change (after 1 week), all fishes are healthy.
    Cheers,
    Sean

Actually few weeks ago, i notice my fish's tail has some white spots and a bit broken tail but i never use any medicine just provide them fresh and live bs and after three days of feeding the white spot just disappear. I think it's more of a stress thing for any fishes to get white spot. But this is a common problems with fishes we keep unless we make it stress free.. Like a more natural planted setup in the tank with some care the problem will be solve.

Quarantine newly purchased fish. Most of the white spot outbreaks i have comes from the new fishes i've bought.

Quarantine is a method. First hand I believe in checking out the condition of the tank and fish while in the lfs, usually i do not buy fish from a tank that had medication, dead fish, or even the fish looks pale. These signs indicate these fish are not too healthy.

Seems everyone is making the same mistakes as i did. Sigh..... I cycled the tank for about a week and introduce loads of fish into the aquarium, within a week, half of my guppies already had fin rot and white spots, by end of week 6th, everything died.

White spot (ICK) is cause by free swimming parasite. What usually triggers attacks is sudden temperature changes, Like last week when ambient suddenly drop.

Best cure for it is Waterlife Protozin.http://www.waterlife.co.uk/waterlife/articles.htm You have to dose it for a few times in a week to kill the parasite as they have a life cycle even though the fish don't have any symptoms after the first dose.

I have read from the forum. Seems Waterlife Protozin is very efficient and plus it does not do any harm to the plants
