like your rock placement. You might be able to increase the grow rate by increasing the light intensity.
This is my first try on a 1 feet cube tank using only rocks... The placement of rocks is a challenge.
Hope can get valuable advise from the brothers here.
Specs: 12" x 12" x 12"
13 watt PL lights x 2
Gex substrate.
Plant: HC only now growing them using tom's method. Growth rate seems slow.
Attached is a picture of the tank after 4 weeks.

I don't know if there will be people suggesting about the number of rocks (its 6 pieces, right?) and that it will be better to have odd rather than even numbers.
I like the basic scape, though I thought the rocks on the right could be a little taller.
Do keep us updated. This one has real potential.

26 watt for a 1 feet cube should be more than enough do i really have to add lights??? i also wrapped the top with clear plastic to create green house effect. hope to see improvement to the HC growth.

It should be enough, I just saying temperory increase the light until all surface covered by HC then remove the extra light and flood your tank. I was just thinking maybe with higher light will make it grow fasterOriginally Posted by soulfinder78
I'm not so sure if the 13 watts PL tube is strong enough for the HC. Although its 2x13, the intensity is still of a 13 watts.
Trying going for a single 18 or 24 watts PL tube.
I agree, single but higher wattage is more preferable.

Since the plants are growing i will stick to my 13 watt x 2 lights till there is an absolute need to change lights.
stones are nice. All of them from biotope as well ?
stones arrangement is good, are you trying to accomplish an iwagumi setup ? its usually 3 stones. 2 50% smaller stones bowing in the correct flow direction and a big stone.

in my opinion, thats not really a must, but just that odd number is more pleasing to the eyes. regarding the bowing of 2 smaller stones, thats actually a style of iwagumi called sanzon iwagumi, where the largest stone is the Buddha and 2 smaller are attendant stones.

My HC still growing very slowly in my tank... So tired of waiting, really wish i can flood it to the rim.

yes...i'm still growing them in emmersed form...growth rate is terriblely slow. i will want to use my 54w PL for my 2 feet tank on them soon.... hopefully things will be different.
Project officially failed. HC starts to turn yellow and melt away.
good effort though. Same thing happening to my japanese HG as well, after an attack by cynobact, blackout for 4 days, all of them turning yellow with some leaves already dead. So much for them being branded as hardy plants.
What a waste
Will be transfering the exact stone layout and transfer to a 1.5feet tank. Then i will use a 1.5feet T5HO. hopefully this time it will works
